Ask TUAW: What's Your Best Source for Icons and Desktop Pictures
Now that
you've had your Mac for awhile, you've started to figure out how to customize its interface to suit your tastes. Simple
question, what's your best source for icons and desktop pictures for your Mac? Free is great, but shareware is
acceptable also.My two favorite places for icons--but certainly not the only ones--are InterfaceLIFT (formerly Xicons) and IconFactory. For desktop pictures, my favorite place is Astronomy Picture of the Day.

Icons: Only special icons I have I made them myself for Mail.app (1939 4 pesetas purple Francisco Franco, 1938 repblica espaﬡ correo submarino 4 & 6 pesetas. They are simple png, not real sets)... Only once did I use downloaded icons for mail. That was the "Legends of Music Icons" set I downloaded from apple.com. I used the Charles Mingus one for over a month. I think I'll change my Franco icon for Charlie Parker this month.
Background: Solid colors Shades of gray (#383838 to #242424 depending on mood). I never use pictures.
I think that http://www.guikit.com is the best.

I get my wallpapres from http://www.aqua-soft.org/ . They have a lot of resources for Windows users there as well as Mac customization stuff.

has a ton of high res awesome pictures. But, it is in Japanese and it can be really slow sometimes, but it is well worth it. If you search for it from google you can translate it and make life easier.
I get stuff from interfacelift.com, mandolux.com and veer.com mostly, though 90% of the time I use mandolux ones for my desktop. I especially like how he makes desktops for multiple displays. I even sent him a HD. I also sometimes use a bunch of pictures I downloaded from airliners.net.

I personally rock out with the Soda Monster chasing the little booger like thing. David Lanham is the man (for people who don't know he's from icon factory)
