iPod homage seen from space
Sometimes even his Steveness is guilty of having too
much time on his hands. Apparently, Mr. Jobs won an abandoned mineral mine in Australia in a game of poker (or so the digg post says). So what does Steve do with the land?
Why, construct the world's largest homage to the iPod, of course! The site can be seen from space (Google Maps link) and still looks to be a work in progress - but wow. I wonder if this is Apple's attempt at putting little white music players in the hands of little green men.

Then they must be making an iPod video version with the side wheel on screen. Seriously, this is just 2 80 acre plots that they dig side by side for whatever reason. This satellite photo is just a few miles away. Probably the same company with some sort of digging method.

Shouldn't this have been posted on April 1? Or even better, "I'm REALLY gullible day"

In case someone believes the obvious joke here, here are a couple of nearby locations to look at:

Either Apple's planning more advertisements than you thought, or it's just a style of farming (?) that produces shapes like that.

Um....I'm pretty sure that this was meant as a joke. I think some of you are taking it a little too seriously.

The digg post was better worded
"The ad, which depicts Apples flagship iPod product has been constructed on the site of an abandoned mineral mine in remote western Australia. It has been in development for almost two years since Apples founder Steve Jobs aquired the location during a game of poker with (the late) Australian publishing and gaming tycoon Kerry Packer.""

Seriously folks, as this is a mineral mine we're talking about, it seems to be two evaporation basins side by side. Presumably, the minerals (think salt or simlar) are underground, dissolved in water to be pumped up, after which the water is evaporated or drained off in these structures. This accounts for the click wheel shape: around the edges the water already has evaporated, in the middle there's still some present.
But kudos to whoever first spotted this!
