Switching on a large scale

For years now, Apple has been seen as the computer supplier to the education and creative markets, but not big business. That's why Aozora Bank's plans to replace almost all of their 2,300 desktop machines with Macs is getting some press. The cool thing is that the bank is already pretty Mac-friendly, and after this switch nearly 90% of their computers will be from Cupertino. The stability of the OS was given as the main reason for the migration.

Let's hope things go well for Aozora Bank so that they may be an example of other members of big business.

Actually, I just designed a website for a real estate company that is all mac, and they've saved thousands doing so, and very happy -- so it works for big business just fine; typical business brainwashing disagrees, but that's no where near the truth.

This is good news indeed. Speaking as a Windows user that took the plunge recently (with Apple's switch to Intel), I am constantly recommending Macs to my friends, colleagues, and clients.

Apple has a huge job ahead of itsself in terms of getting the word out as to how great their offerrings are, relative to Dell et al.

I remember seeing the CIO for Azora giving a presentation to last year's WWDC. It sounded impressive as they're using NetBooted iMacs with iSight cameras for all of their desktops. The reason for the iSights are that the vast majority of their support folks will be offsite and communicating with their users via Apple Remote Desktop and video chat.

No, let's not hope that corporate America is adopting Mac's for business use. The reason is very obvious: the more Macs the bigger the incentive for malware writers to target this platform. Let's leave this at a 2-3% market share for now!

I must add that in India too there are quite a few people who are switching to Macs. The mac mini though is not that as popular as the iMac and mac laptops.

Take for example, my friend. He came to my place once, saw the iBook and now is fixated on buying the iMac...

That's great, although I don't see a world business switch to OSX happening anytime soon, start small.

My switch is only 2 short days away!

P.S. Where are all these 30th Birthday announcements? As far as I could see it wasn't even mentioned on the apple website.

If we can rely on my extremely limited Japanese and the image on their front page "Aozora" means "Blue Sky." "Blue Sky Bank" is a wonderfully lyrical bank name, don't you think?
