Rig of the Day: Apple II GS, autographed by Woz

Good grief! How do you make your vintage Apple II GS even cooler? Get Woz to sign it, of course. That's what Flickr user CharlieBrown (no relation) did, and we're jealous. Keep that thing away from sunlight, Chuck!

For the month of April, the theme for our Rig of the Day will be "Vintage Macs" in honor of Apple's anniversary. If you'd like to see your own rig featured here, simply upload photos into our group Flickr pool. Let's see your vintage Macs (Apples and Newtons, too)! We'll select an image every day to highlight.

Snagged one of these at a school auction along with a later model for about a buck each. The first ones had an easter egg hidden at boot where oyu could get it to display a message and developer credits. the later ones had an audio clip of the dev team saying 'apple' on it as well (erm, eeggs.com says it's sound clip is 'Apple II', guess it's been a while since I messed with the machines), which was a nice little thing to find when tinkering with them.

April 06 2006 at 4:08 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyI had one of these, it is my favorite mac memory, We had a WOZ IIGS and my dad bought everythign you that you could buy for it, even the modem which served almost no use for us but we had it. It had a brilliat monitor and a neat add on that placed a 2.5in floppy and 2.5in floppy holder and and surgeprotector all in between the system and the monitor. I used the computer up until 1995 to type most of my papers on. It came with no harddrive , but we had the boosted ram (I can't remember what it was but it was the delux version) To get to the desktop you had to hotswap and load the OS everytime, it was 4 or 5 disk if I remember. However most software for macs back then just ran by sticking them in and turning the computer on. I didn't know what an operating system really was till windows 95. I still remember the day my dad bought the computer, at a store in williamsburg virignia. It was a sad day when we got gave the comptuer to a local elemenetary school. It still worked great.

April 06 2006 at 8:29 AM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyActually, the first 40,000 II GS's built were called Woz limited editions and featured his signature. This is probably one of those, and as such, unfortunately, is not exactly a one off item.
