Quake 4, a game that could literally destroy my productivity in one swooping install, is now shipping as a Universal Binary for Mac OS X. Getting back to its first-person storyline roots, this latest installment picks up after the events of Quake 2, in which you are part of an elite marine force whose mission is to stop an Earth invasion and blow a ton of stuff up. Check out Aspyr Media's Quake 4 product page for more storyline details and system specs, as a PowerPC G4/G5 at 1.67 is required (which we've mentioned before), but they recommend a G5 or Intel-based Mac.
Quake 4 is priced at $49.99 and is available from Amazon.

It's a great game (if you like this kind of thing). But it's not yet patched to match the PC version, which means that virtually no online servers will allow you to connect yet. Hoping that Aspyr hurries up and releases the next patch to fix this!

Seconding what Mark said - it's pretty good. Starts out with every stupid cliche in the "Aliens" handbook (hey, it's those wise-cracking Marines in the drop ship! Again! I love those guys!) and it feels a bit like Doom 3 in the first stages of play, what with all the rusty corridors. But it picks up quickly. And it's nice to see the military has solved the whole problem of using a flashlight while you're carrying a rifle, too. Either that or Stroggos has a vast duct-tape strategic reserve.

I love this game and it plays smashingly well on my Intel Core Duo. It definitely frags the productivity. I've seen only 8-12 people online at any time in the 3 days I've been playing it. They've usually only done Free for all deathmatch game and I keep hoping someone starts a team CTF game.

Yes, it is a great game. I recommend you to play it on PC. Not on MAC.
