G4 and G5-optimized Firefox 1.5.0.2 Builds

My friend Neil has been releasing G4 and G5-optimized builds of Firefox for awhile, with great success. I use a G5-optimized version on my dual G5 tower as my main browser. He's just compiled and released new builds for version 1.5.0.2 which was recently released by Mozilla. Get them here.

Remember that these builds are called DeerPark because only the official Mozilla builds of Firefox can use the Firefox name.

I found that the plain vanilla FireFox distribution runs much faster now then in 1.5.0.1. The G5 optimized version seems a little perkier. I used the G4 version at work and it didn't seem any faster then the normal version.

I only see one difference, the optimized for G5 version doesn't render web sites correctly, it's no faster in my un-scientific test.
Ironically this is one of the sites that show scrambled/on top of each other fonts. (I'm running 10.4.6 on a G5 dual 2.3 with 4gb ram.)

Personally, on my iBook G4, I don't feel there's much of a difference between the G4-optimized build and the official build. Nor do they consume different amounts of resources. That's why I decided to stick to the official build.

Damien, I don't want to do a 90's-style flame war but I do beg to differ.

Yes TUAW has posted stories on optimized G4 & G5 builds, as well as Intel optimized builds. I don't have a problem with pointing a story about optimized builds for G4's and G5's but at least point optimized intel builds as well, as you have done in the past. Going forward as more and more users move for G4's and G5's similar stories will end up being titled "Optimized Firefox 1.5.0.2 Builds"

What I submit and pointed to above is in fact a optimized Firefox 1.5.0.2 build for ICBM, which I used to submit the tip. I don't feel shorted for it, my tip, not making not being a news item. However I just feel it could have had an "oh and you Intel users fret not grab your build here".

Samual, we've posted to TUAW about G4 and G5-optimized builds several times. This is not a new topic. Did you search the site for the previous posts about this topic?

The builds for 1.5.0.2 in *this* post were not released by Neil until late last night. So while we read the tip/question/story you submitted, at that time there were no builds for 1.5.0.2 to which to point you.

Interestinly I submitted a story last week, the same day 1.5.0.2 was released, on where to obtain optimized 1.5.0.2 builds for Intel users. Saddly it wasn't news worthy enough to even note it for this story. Alkast I'll provide the footnotes here:

So, do these optimized builds actually make the browsing experience noticably faster? Just curious if it's worth it to have another browser in my apps.
