Tip of the Day
To get an instant map to any address, just go to your Address Book and right click on the address field of any one of your contacts and select "Map Of." The address will then be revealed in Google Maps on Safari. You can do the same if a data detector determines there is an address in an e-mail in Mail.

OS 9 isnt dead. I use it every day as my primary OS of choice.
and it hasnt crashed since I installed it. I have had to restart to satisfy software installers.
and that's another thing: finding software for it. but I do...

This is why im worried about the continuing development of PPC apps, i mean i know a lot of people (especially in the Graphics industry) that still use classic, or actually boot in 9. Apple were so quick to kick OS 9 to the Curb, im worried that come next year, they wont be pushing companies to make Universal Binaries, and Just intel only ones.
Now, since this is a Processor issue, and not a OS issue, im not sure how differently Apple will handle this, since my first home Mac was a 601 PPC, i just missed the 68k -> PPC transition. but im still concerned, so during my next upgrade, ill keep my mini running side by side with whatever i buy next.
still, the video was funny :P

osx apps are now universal, there is no intel only build avalable. http://www.apple.com/universal/applications/ for more information.

this is great. I was at WWDC and got to see the real thing, brings back memories.. Although I did like OS 9 very much, OS X is infinitely better!

apple won't push out universal binaries to force us to buy new macs. that's just not their way. It took apple a 2 years to decided to drop support for it. No one is gonna give up on X on PPC because it's not a separate process. It's 1 simple checkbox to create a Universal app. So don't fear OSX on PPC and Intel is here to stay.

Where's the part after that? I'd be more interested in seeing them introduce OS X.

11. If you are into Torrents check this out. Haven't tried it and it has all kinds of screwy codecs but it looks somewhat promising for the content you asked for?

Funny stuff. OS 9 always felt faster then os X.
Reply
Hawk said 10:06PM on 4-21-2006
OS 9 always felt faster than OS X until you had to manually allocate more memory to a program lest it would simply stop working, or until you got a 'you need to restart' prompt that hard-locked the machine when you clicked 'restart'.

My office still uses Candy iMacs running OS 9 (really). a morning of dealing with that and I want to shoot myself. Almost as bad, I also have to suffer through semi computer-literate PC-heads saying "I hate Macs!" every 10 minutes or so.

I hope they have a similar happening for the death of the PPC. We all will mourn.
