FoxTrot: Run Windows on your iFruit
Even Jason from FoxTrot wants a shiny new Intel Mac.
Today's comic illustrate's the boy bugging his mom for
"one of those new Intel-powered iFruits... because you can run Windows on them," to which she replies "I
don't want to run Windows. It'd just be a big headache." It's always nice to hear that Apple-nut sites like TUAW aren't the only ones who 'get it.' However, I don't want to ruin any more of the strip than I already have, so check it out for yourself.
[thanks, Logan Rockmore!]

I never understood what the point of running Windows was either. Maybe when Vista comes out to test it and see if it's comparable to OS X, but besides that why in you're right mind would you run XP!

Well, seeing as it's Foxtraot, there's very little left to ruin. It's one of the most banal nad predictable strips around. Kind of an update on Garfield, just repeating variations of the same jokes that were tired before they were told twice.

You really dont get it Stefan?
OK, last time. It's not that everyone WANTS to run XP - its that some applications *only* run on XP - so it's necessary. Some people cannot justify spending $2500 on a new Apple laptop if they can't run their AutoCAD app or Visual Studio, or any other countless number of good applications that only run on XP, not to mention 90% of the games that aren't Mac-compatible.
Get it?

Scott, You probably shouldn't be critiquing comics if you can't tell the diffrence between Bill Amend's clever, topical humor, and Jim Davis' ability to blindly stab at paper with rubber stamps

Dear TUAW,
Please stop writing about bootcamp. You don't get it.

Well, I'm with Scott on this one - Foxtrot is as unfunny as they come. Show of hands?

Hear hear. If you have a long memory, you'll remember a Foxtrot cartoon from 15+ years ago that featured Paige dreaming of "Josh Mercer? The Josh Mercer?" Josh is a friend of mine who wrote a nice letter about Foxtrot to E!, which got him those 15 minutes of fame from Bill.

I like Foxtrot.
And I thought the same way about running windows on a mac, but my roommate and her bf were discussing their future computer purchases, and it sounds like being able to run windows will be the deciding factor for both of them switching. My roommate, to be able to use her iRiver (not everybody can buy a new music player on a regular basis, alas), and sync whatever palm device she's going to be required to have for her school program (in case it doesn't work with mac). And her bf to play windows games and sync stuff.
They're both excited about macs (they've been using my ibook this year, when I'm not using it), but it's pretty clear to me that it's the ability to run windows that's giving them the final push to make up their minds and forego the low cost of a pc.
