1000 song hack for iTunes phones?

For those out there who find the 100 song cap (amongst other things) on iTunes phone a deal breaker, Engadget Mobile might have found your saving grace. A forum at MotoModders has the details and simple steps you can take to run a simple hack on any iTunes phone (except the v3i) to raise the song cap to 1000. Unfortunately, there's one catch: the little app you have to run is Windows-based, so you'll need a PC or Boot Camp to actually do this (sorry, Parallels doesn't support USB devices - yet).

Obviously this is a hack, so don't blame us or MotoModders if something goes wrong. However, if you do try this, please post your thoughts and let us know if it really works.

Does anyone know if there is a size limit for individual song files? Perhaps one way to get around the limit -- though hardly optimal -- is to splice together song files? I'll likely get the RAZR v3i which I understand cannot be hacked?

you are not right with the space! you can make one mp3 from 3mb to 1mb (shrink it) and then there fits more than 100songs !

This hack may allow you to put 1000 songs on the phone but it doesn't add extra megabytes to do so. If you look at the image there are only 84 songs on the phone and only 60 megabytes left. The phone doesn't have room to fit 1000 songs.

Almost every phone out there can play music; why I want to see an "iPhone" is to see how Apple will design it. Plus seamless integration into the Mac platform.

The SLVR - ugly? How many prettier phones are out there?

Walkman is a dying brand.

I have a WM5 phone, and I love the functionality of it, don't love that it is windows. Oh boy if Apple were ever to make such a product I would be first in line to get one.

@ JT
I don't know if Walkman phone purchases are really a good indicator of anything. We all know how Sony is with their proprietary *everything*, and with the realtive ubiquity of the iPod, I think Apple is in a MUCH better position to move "iPhones" than Sony will ever be. The Walkman phone, like everything else Walkman-branded Sony has been putting out lately, feels, to me, like a desperate attempt to stay relevant in an arena they used to dominate.

Depending on the success of walkman phones, we'll soon know if an Apple phone is (a last) bound to arrive. If it had decent contact management & agenda, it would sure be in my pocket ASAP.

I agree with Brendan and Bill but i'd love to have an Apple phone that could hold maybe 250 songs or something for when i leave/forget/don't want to take my iPod.

As if uploading 100 songs over USB1.1 wasn't slow enough, now you have to wait for 1000?

No thanks - I'll stick with my 20GB iPod in one hand, and cell phone in my pocket. If the phone rings....I'll just take out one headphone...

It's a pity there's no hack to get rid of the ugliness of that phone!
