Ars Technica takes a look at iPod speakers
Those very detail oriented fellows at Ars Technica
have set their sights on high end iPod speaker
systems, and there can be only one. The review takes a look at the Apple iPod HiFi, the Altec Lansing inMotion iM7, and the Klipsch iFi.The review is very in depth, but I don't want to say any more lest I spoil the fun for you (but the iPod HiFi does better than expected).

They forgot to test looks that 'Klipsch iFi' is the ugliest thing i've ever seen!!! EVER
It's not coming within ten miles of my house! And another thing the Hi-fi is not as heavy an some sites make out. Any lighter and it just wouldn't have that solid quality feel it does. I wouldn't describe it as heavy. I own one, and it's truely great. Looks great and sound superb. The only one gripe is the fact that there's no built in "radio". Come on Apple, give us a built in Radio in 2nd gen!

When I was looking at getting some speakers these were top of my list:

They seem to be better value for money than any of these speakers in this test.

I've got an iM7 and it doesn't sound bad at all. If you push it louder bass will distorce a bit, but I bet it has better highs than the Apple Hi-Fi, thanks to the tweeters.
By the way, I'm used to Genelec monitors...
