Skype now Universal

Skype 1.4.0.39 is now available, and if you're on an Intel Mac you might want to download it. Why? Because it is now a Universal App, so you can kiss Rosetta goodbye (at least for your Skype calls). Be aware that if you are on an Intel Mac and you do upgrade you can't revert to a lower version number. I don't know why you would want to, but it is something you should be aware of.

This version also adds 'web presence' and Traditional Chinese language support.

Thanks, Ben.

Update: It seems this version has been pulled since... well it just plain didn't work!

I downloaded the new version and it will not work. When I go back to Skype to try and download the old version it is still sending the version that will not work. Is there anywhere on the net that has the old version for download?

What a mess!

Note that less than 1% of Skype users actually paying users, so I wouldn't imagine that the company's rushing out to buy more server space for video conferencing. Maybe they have enough space and will be able to implement it soon, but if not, at least be reasonable and have patience. (Or do they plan to spread the bandwidth burden amongst the users? Hm ...)

Everyone calm down, you should all know better than to jump early then whine like that. I did too and it didn't work, it was my choice. However on mine I just got the officially released skype .35 build and re copied that to my applications dir and it works still, but come one skype - we want universal binary (With video) dammit

1.4.0.39 is definitely not working on PPC-Chips, don't know if there are any issues with the Intel-powered side of the story (but seems so).
Weird, thought that Universal says 'I can run on both ppc and intel'...

It is about time they released this, but I guess it was still too early.

Not that it really matters too much, I already switched to Gizmo which has been Universal for some time.
