iBooks for 48 bucks
The Maine Learning Technology Initiative has 30,000 iBooks that the state has mostly paid off, and they are looking
to get rid of them. That's why they are
selling them to the schools that they are in for $8 a pop (that's the difference in what the state has paid and what is
left over). Now, keep in mind that these iBooks have been in the hands of schoolchildren for 4 years so they are
probably not in the best of shape (in general), but that is still a pretty good deal.Luckily they aren't giving the public a chance to snag any, so there won't be any stampedes this time around.

Ummm, are they selling them to the schools for $48, as the headline suggests, or for $8, as the test states?

Yeah, I am a high schooler in Maine I can say that some of the laptops are not in very good shape. The upcoming freshmen get the newest release of the ibooks so the upper classmen like myself are always envious of the freshmens super duper ibooks. How would you like it if you didnt have any admin acess, always be watched with remote desktops and knowing more about the computers than the IT department. I changed the color of some of the menu extras and made the airport signal horizontal lines and the adminstrator thought I had hacked the system and installed "malicious" software.

Why make kids with more than one Poppa pay more?

Sorry, you are misinformed. The cost to the school districts is $48.00. I maintain the 479 iBooks our district has. We are selling them to the teachers and students for $55, the profit going to cover the labor used to test and reimage them.
