Apple airs new Mac commercial
Shout for joy, oh members of the Mac Elite -- our time has finally come! Apple is officially airing a TV advert that
-- brace yourselves -- focuses on the Mac. In the spot I saw (on FOX, during Prison Break), comedian John
Hodgeman (claiming to be "PC") and another actor (claiming to be "Mac") have a conversation about
viruses. Hodgeman gets sick, and "Mac" talks about how Macs aren't affected by PC malware. Hodgeman then
"crashes," falling backwards. It was almost too good to be true.As soon as I find a video link to the ad, I'll post it.
Update: MacRumors posts about another, similarly-themed ad. This one focuses on the iPod and iLife. Still searching for the actual video....

Anybody know the name of the guy playing the Mac?
He is in a new college movie coming out but I cannot remember the name of that either. Looks pretty funny.
I don't like this ad at all.
It gives the impression that Mac users only "play" with their computers for music and whatnot, and that PCs can only do spreadsheets.
It also gives the impression that Mac is "cool", and anti-intellectual, whereas the Windows is too "uptight"...
People need to stop generalising, and it think it's offending to PC users as well as Mac users.
The ads can be viewed at the Apple site, here is the direct address to the ads.

With the MAC commericals, the greatest thing they forget to compare is that Apple is Simplified with its Reduced Instruction Set's... meanwhile PC is Not so simplified and uses Complex Instruction Set's for computing...
So I see the MAC commercials that are currently showing up on TV as comparing a 4th grader vs a college student.
PC being the College student...
It also reminds me of all those who said MAC's dont get virus's..even that is un-true...
MAC's are nice...but dont forget people that they are limited to functionality and abilities...meanwhile with the PC they are limitless...hence the problems MAC commercials capitalize on... the ability to be without limits with your creativity. MAC' are limited PERIOD.
if you dont believe me..do your own research on both sides of the fence.

Apple says Macs don't have viruses? No one intelligent enough to make a virus uses a mac.
Apple says PCs crash and Macs don't? I recently discovered that someone found out how to run Windows on a PC, which inspired Apple to release a beta version of a program that would allow the dual boot with OSX and Windows XP. Why would Apple do that? Wouldn't that make a Mac crash? The program is called Boot Camp incase you haven't heard and the link is to the page is http://www.apple.com/macosx/bootcamp/ . I believe PCs run a few different operating systems too, such as Windows, Unix, Linux, FreeBSD, OS/2, BeOS, GNU, and on and on. Whoops, one crashed a few times, point goes to Mac....yeah right.
Apple says Macs are better at 'life stuff'? 'Music, movies, pictures, stuff like that'? Listening to music, watching a movie, and looking at a picture is a competitive sport now? C'mon Apple, you could attack a little bit better than this. Those aren't real sports.
Apple takes pride in its iPod, no doubt about that. It is definately one of its better selling products, but somehow, the iPod is a blow against PCs? Windows is in fact bundled with Calculator and also Clock, just so you know. Yes, there is a Windows version of iTunes, but I'm wondering how successful the iPod would have been if Apple didn't develop a windows version of iTunes? I doubt everyone would go buy a Mac just so they could plug their iPod into something, since most homes are equipped with a PC, not a Mac, and most iPods have their libraries of music on a PC. Also, lets not forget that there are in fact other portable music players in the world, most without Mac support, but they all work in PCs.
Apple says PCs and Apple share internet connections, everything just kind of works with a Mac, including new digital cameras from Japan. Probably the most illusive commercial they've aired. Let me remind you that nearly ALL of the internet web servers are run on PCs. Let me also remind you that USB 2.0 is faster than Firewire. Let me remind you that with a PC, you are allowed to buy the hardware you want to use for way less than what you would pay for a Mac. For what you would pay for a Power Mac G5 ($1999), you could get a PC with the same power for nearly half the price. Hit up NewEgg.com and put the rig together yourself if you don't believe me (the rig I put together with the same hardware power w/ Windows XP was going to cost about $1300).
Apple got 1 review from a 'respected technology experts on the planet'. 'Apparently you're the finest desktop PC on the market at any price'. Uhh, well, I already explained the pricing above. That would just mean I would have had $700 extra to beef up my system even more.
Bottom line. Macs just can't compete with PCs. Buy a PC.
It should be pointed out that Hodgeman is playing a "Windows" PC, since you could put Linux on a machine, get no viruses what so ever, have more software bundled than mac offers, and it's free. Funny commercials, though.
Also, anyone know the date of that Mossman article? The latest I've seen from him in the Journal was from '02.
Does anyone know where I can get the music from the new "Get A Mac" commercials? Thanks.
