Super easy access to your iDisk's public folder

The official .Mac blog has an article describing a super simple method of accessing a subscriber's iDisk public folder. Simply point your browser to "idisk.mac.com/membername-Public" (where "membername" is, well, your .Mac member name). Also, depending on how that folder's owner has permissions set up, a visitor can even upload a file via the generated web page. Very nice indeed.

Thanks, Lee!

euh... is it just me or can anyone just delete the files on that .mac account? i deleted the file I uploaded myself... (not the files of the owner) but guess this is a large security risk.

I think this is great. A security hole, sure, but convenient for when you need someone to send you a large file.

If you go to you .Mac prefrence pane, you can change the access settings (e.g. read only, or to require a PW). I don't think it's asking for trouble as it's set to Read only by default, one must go in and change it to Read/Write.

jurjen: It's by default set to not allow uploads. I have never changed my permissions, but I can't upload when I visit the page.

isn't this asking for trouble. Anyone can upload files to people who haven't set their preferences up right. for instance... i uploaded something to http://idisk.mac.com/hank-Public ... i really don't know who hank is, tried steve (job) first, but couldn't upload there. His folder is empty as well.
