Church gives out free iPod shuffles
iPods are hot (that's breaking news for ya!). Therefore, when you are trying to woo someone to come to your grand opening, or website, or what have you, it makes sense to give away a few iPods. People like free things, and people like iPods. That's what the Interfaith Unity Church of Mesa, AZ figured out. Every week between now and June 11th they are giving away an iPod shuffle to someone in the congregation. Sounds like a good idea to me.

My church, Northpoint Community church, gave away an iPod video, a 100 gift card, and an apple, to illustrate jealousy. It was pretty cool. There is video online at northpoint.org, its on part 3 of "it came from within".

You know, if you want to give something away, the quickest and easiest way to get people in to your church would be to give away free beer. Throw in a couple of wet t-shirt contests and you're suddenly RELEVANT to the culture around you. I mean, if getting bodies in the door is the most important thing...

Hey! Mesa! That's almost enough to get me in church. Too bad it's not an iPod with video, then I would definitely take the time to go. Hehe, I'm so lazy, it's only about 7 minutes away too. :)

#5 - After the idea's novelty worse off (10 seconds), I felt the same way.
Bribing people to go to church. Now there's a concept! I'm very sad and disappointed by this.
Unconditional Love, Sharing Life's Joys and Tragedies, Forgiveness! Acceptance! Prayer! Christ offers all these and more... (Big numbers in your Church and free iPods? Not on the list and not in the Bible.)

#1 - my church planted one called NorthPointe Community Church -so for a moment I thought you might have something to do with that... but it is a different state.
#3,5 and anyone else... - yes, don't you remember the verse "For the word of God is living and active. But when it comes to attendance a gimmick really works better." I think that's Second Hebrews something...
On a side I think it is fine if they want to have drawings for iPods or whatnot at a church event, but I don't think they should do so during the service or be bought by the church.

#3 There you go, I might even reconsider my atheism belief if that happened.
