Just say iDon't to iPods

SanDisk has launched iDont.com, a viral marketing campaign to get people to stop using iPods and start using SanDisk's MP3 players. The site features images of sheep and robots sportin' iPod earbuds to show that you are a mindless fool for buying an iPod (the first rule of marketing: insult your target audience). The site doesn't really make any compelling arguments as to why you should give up your iPod, but why shouldn't we trust SanDisk? They're completely impartial, right?

I have read through your website, and I am confused as to what your point is exactly. You suggest that people should be free and not be sheep, however you go on to push a ScanDisk mp3 player. Further the only email on this website is sheepherder@idont.com, are you trying to herd people to believe your incoherent propaganda?
If you are saying that people buy iPods only because it is a trend, you are quite wrong. Yes iPods over the past few years have become "somewhat trendy", however there is a reason for this. Take a look at when the first iPod came out, the reason it dominated the market was because it was practical, it carried lots of songs, wasn't bulky, and was user-friendly. It didn't simply rise to the top because it was trendy.
I am aware that you probably get many of these emails, and that you probably got paid by ScanDisk to make this website, however why attack Apple?
Apple's iPods are cheaper and more user-friendly (yes, I have used the e200, confusing like a cellphone). If you want to be alternative and go against the grain you should support Apple. Who knows one day they might bring down that corporate OS that makes all of our live so non user-friendly.
Trying to gain support by putting down others without conclusive evidence comes off as quite transparent to many.
i love how a company is TELLING me to "think for myself". i bought an ipod cause i love the product and ive never had a problem. Vive L'iPod!!
May 23 2006 at 11:53 AM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyIt is awful 'viral' campaign. I actually took time to delve through the site. There are only two reviews cited, and one is from anythingbutipods. That's because most reviewers have given SanDisk an E for effort, but said the Sansas don't catch up to iPods. The site's supposed expose is the video complaining about iPod battery life and difficulty replacing the battery from years ago. (Apparently, people are not supposed to figure out the complaints have been addressed.) Most tellingly, the 'news' section is nearly empty because the products have gotten limited coverage. And, most of it was so-so. The focus on offering site visitors printable stickers seems much too childish for the intended audience.
I also found it amusing that one can't Google idon't or idont get the site.
The writing on idon't is remarkably like that of the blogger at anythingbutipods.
The site is an embarrassment. I wonder whether it will stay up long.
You should look at all the comments about the product in their link page (from allbutipod.com). This is very funny. In fact people say they love the product but it does not work ! It is still very buggy. If I were Sandisk, I would not have put a link like this ...
May 23 2006 at 4:59 AM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyHahahaha. This campaign is sooo horribly put together! If you type the address verbatim with the apostrophe in the ad then you don't go to any page, much less the right page. Hahaha they are never going to get computer illiterate people to go to their site!

May 22 2006 at 7:34 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyI felt the same thing about Comcast's "slowsky" turtles ad. I use DSL and while it's not as purely fast as cable, I'm entirely happy with the combination of speed and price. So Comcast thinks I'm a dumbass turtle who likes to be slow. I was considering getting cable for my new big-arse TV and Comcast made that decision easier - I'm getting a dish.
May 22 2006 at 7:05 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyIt's unfortunate isn't it? You have the best computer and no one will buy it so you get the whole "niche" treatment - or "more expensive." You have the best MP3 player and suddenly it's "trendy" and everyone buys it but now they're all lemmings or sheep or chimps. Apple just can't win, can they?
