More details about the Apple/Nike partnership
BusinessWeek has the scoop on the Apple/Nike partnership that just resulted in that very cool iPod/shoe sensor item (I want one and I never run anywhere). It all started 18 months ago when Apple approached Nike to supply the shoe company with branded MP3 players. Nike had been down that road before (with several other companies) and they thought that they could do more. Fast forward a year and a half and BAM! Nike + iPodGlobal. Both companies plan on working together to bring even more cool products to market (can you say ringtones for your sneakers? Awesome).

Does anyone know if this device will be usable in other brands of running shoes? I am a long time ASICS runner and Nike shoes tend not to fit my feet well.

I would think that the sensor could be fit into any running shoe insole with a little creative razor work.

John, a separate kit for other brands of shoes will be sold by Apple. The 'special' part of the deal with Nike is mainly the promotional tie-in.
I'm wondering how long the contract will last. Phil Knight can be a very vexing and litigious person. Example: When the University of Oregon allowed an international workers' rights group to develop, he withdrew his endowment, worth millions.

This is the first I have heard of a kit for other shoes. Where did you get this information?

Nike likes Golf! So, the iPod could take your scores and Nike could provide the waterproof sports case for your iPod that clips on to your golf bag :D
This makes too much sense!!

I wonder how many geeks will get up out of their computer chairs and start running now.
I know this could possibly motivate me.

hehe Exactly, quite astonishing really. I'm like, "uhh.. nike? What's in this for apple, not interesting.." But then I find myself cheking it out and halway planning to buy the Nikeshoes and start working out.
Marketing sure works, wonderful! :p

7 and 10
You're both forgetting the huge group of people who are using iPod's (and are already running.)

I really can't understand this...
As a previous reader commented on the last Nike/Apple post here:
" *deep breath*
Nike can go f#*k themselves.
What next Apple? KKK generated content on itunes?
Sheesh!
Apple can in no way, at all, possibly, ever, use the word "Cool" in association with any of their products ever again.
*and relax* "

Here's some new pictures of the kit - it looks pretty good but I'm wondering how they got their hands on the stuff - there's some good pictures of the UI too.
BTW, how do you submit news to TUAW, is there a link somewhere?
