Videator

Stone design has unleashed Videator onto an unsuspecting world, and I have just one word: wow (and not in a good way). $49 (which gets you free upgrades for life, which is cool) gets you this app that uses Core Video to manipulate video on the fly.

Judging by the sample videos this means that you can create unwatchable video content in no time flat! Hurrah! Plus, you get to use a user interface that is interesting.

As I said Videator will run you $49, and there is a 14 day trial.

I'm happy to have affordable software coming from a company dedicated to the Mac. Why the hate? As far as the software being underwhelming, they will improve upon it over time- this is the first release! Competition is a good thing. I support Stone whole-heartedly.

This looks to be the Photobooth of video.
I guess I do not understand what is bad about the software; I know my kid would love it in the same way he likes to mess around with Photobooth.

And come on, check out the press release:

"John Perry Barlow, founder of the Electronic Frontier Foundation and lyricist for the Grateful Dead, said “Videator seriously rocks. "

I could seriously see hippies and psychadelics digging all the trippy effects.

Its also guaranteed to be used by creators of cable access television shows all over America!

I'm not going to jump on the hatewagon re Stone, just because I have admired their commitment to native cocoa apps and other core mac os x technologies.

Could it apply core video (and spit it out) to a live signal in real time over firewire? Perhaps it should be molded into a VJ application.

Yes: wow!

I like the idea of having low-quality images, and photoshop blur and shadow effetcs on the site! It's very old-skool
