Flip4Mac begins beta testing Universal Binary WMV QuickTime components
For Intel Mac users who either love or hate WMV but have to deal with it one way or another, Flip4Mac has just begun beta testing the long-awaited Universal Binary version of their WMV QuickTime components. Announced in their forums today, it is more or less an invite-yourself program, as I had to contact them weeks ago to get on their email announcement list. After briefly testing on my MacBook Pro, it seems like everything is working just fine. I'm able to play embedded WMV files with no problem, but I unfortunately don't have any locally saved WMV's to try at the moment. So far, the beta seems like a success, and while I hate the WMV format just as much as the next Mac user, it's nice to no longer receive that 'plug-in not found' error.

If I can get XM radio to work on my MBP using this, then I will be happy as a lark. Anyone who is beta testing, please drop some info.

'bout damn time. I really want to dump this stand alone, non-web integrated Windows Media Player.

Does it work with Windows Media Video 11? Or is just WMV 9 like the player for Mac from Microsoft?

It crashes in Firefox and Camino. Seems to work in Safari.
Anyone tried popwire?

#10, you need to log out and log back in for it to work in most browsers.

Works great - Quentin - the XM widget works great with this so far! Much better than my previous iBook. MacBook and XM - what a great combination.

#7: in the flip4mac pref pane, if you click "Launch QuickTime Player", the video will be launched in an external qt window instead of embedded in the browser. at that point you can make your qt window full screen. bit of a work around, but it works!

Does anybody have another download link? The one given in comment #2 doesn't seem to work anymore.

A big bummer! It automatically closes the browser window when loading a WMV movie in Safari or Firefox.
