Hey students, buy a Mac and get a free iPod nano

Apple is currently running a promotion (which goes until September 16, 2006) that many college students will like. Buy a Mac and an iPod to qualify for a $179 dollar rebate. Apple is advertising this as getting a free iPod nano, but the rebate can be applied to any iPod model you might have your eye on. Sounds like a good deal, though I never remember to fill out those rebate offers.

Since they seem run a variation of this promotion every summer, it wasn't exactly unpredictable and so I don't feel so bad for the early adopters... This is also how I got my ibook and G4 ipod two years ago. About a week or two after the promotion, they significantly upped the specs on the ibook without raising the price, and I assume that pattern will continue to, so people/students who want an ipod should buy during the summer, and people who don't should wait and get better specs for the same money. These are my wild predictions...

Well, I guess thats what I get for not believing 'Think Secret' who said it would start today. I just took my parents to the Apple Store to buy them thier first Mac yesterday, if I would have waited one day I could have gotten a free iPod. Oh well.

maybe they are doing this to clear out space for a touch screen iPod.

Its a killer deal actually. $179 from the iPod, - 200 from the Student discount (that eliminates the taxes) is the way to go. This is how I got my first mac and iPod last year and I couldnt be happier. Although I opted for the extra mile because with these savings I upgraded the ram in my PB and instead of a mini I got a 20 gb iPod.

I like this promotion a lot, if only there wasnt that much controversy with the Macbooks and Macbook Pro's heat problems and glitches, I would already be using this promotion.

Too bad it doesn't count for Mac minis, I'm buying one for my sister this afternoon...

It will probably make sales of the Black MacBooks more palatable (fair). You can pay 200 dollars extra for a bit more hard drive and an iPod Nano, or you can merely pay 200 dollars extra to compensate for your shortcomings.

They had it in Canada last year (that is when I became a switcher), but it was much later in the summer. There is an old rebate form (http://ccs.usask.ca/vendors/pdfrebates/apple/iPodBTS05promo.pdf) that is dated between June 28 and September 24, which begins later than the US one - its the same rebate I used last year.

I'm counting on one of these promos to hit Canada, because I'm getting me an iMac!

rebate .........$179

nano 1GB.....$149
nano 2GB.....$199
nano 4GB.....$249

I don't understand the odd rebate number...perhaps they're dropping the 1GB and maybe even the 2GB, and changing the lowest capacity to $179 very soon. But why would they create the 1GB nano just recently and quickly kill it.

perhaps a further price drop in the shuffles with the 1GB nano becoming $99 then some kind of upscaling to $179 for maybe the 4GB

i'm so confused....does anyone else have ne clue how this could play out?
