Remote Buddy
Now that most Macs come with a remote, don't you wish you could do a little bit more with it? Now you can, thanks to Remote Buddy. This hand little application lets you control a number of items on your Mac through the magic of Behaviours, which are plugins for Remote Buddy.Check out their website for a cool video showing off some of the features. There is a 30 day demo available, while a full version will cost € 9,99 (usually € 14,99 but there is a sale if you buy before version 1.0 is released).

it's worth adding that for those of you with a Mini or whatever that doesn't have an IR receiver, you can probably jerry-rig something up with Salling Clicker or Romeo and use your cellphone as the remote :)

Interesting little app, but christ alive that demo video is the most boring thing I've ever seen. It's meant to get me excited by the software?
'Now I'm double clicking . . . now I'm dragging the window round the screen'
Fascinating.
By the way, I've got exactly the same equipment as you #1, MacBook Pro and first gen media centre Mini. Can someone confirm that a combination of the iRed software and the IRTrans module will allow use of an Apple remote on an older PPC machine?
Thanks.
Just yesterday I was complaining to a friend that the Apple remote didn't work with VLC and today it does. That's awesome.

June 06 2006 at 6:17 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down Replynumber one - check out keyspan or airclicks - they come with remotes too, with more buttons and built in maps for front row and other apps (quicktime / dvd player itunes etc)
June 06 2006 at 4:26 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down Replyin response to comment number 1, Mark - Check out either the Keyspan USB remote. I have used that with the mac mini. The other great product to check out is iRTrans (http://www.irtrans.de/en/main.php) and the Mac application iRed (http://www.filewell.com/iRed/details.html)
I have this combination running on a Mac Mini running OS X Server 10.4.6
TUAW, please mention iRed Lite!
It's Freeware and very powerful!
Using it every day!!!

Looks like a winning app to me! I've been dying switching from FrontRow to VLC to play certain videos of different formats! Only problem is the Remote Buddy Website is so ridiculously slow. The should of had youtube host the video!
June 06 2006 at 4:02 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyDoes any one know if there a USB connected IR receiver that I could retro fit to a gen 1 MacMini?
I could then use the remote that came with my MBP on my MacMini. A quick rip of FrontRow then I could attach the MM to my living room TV.
