New Mac ad surfaces

A couple of eagle-eyed readers have seen a new Mac ad on CNN and the net, featuring the two actors from the most recent campaign. This time, they're in boxes, with the Mac talking about how ready to go he is from the start, while the PC has to deal with all sorts of demo software and so on. We haven't seen it on Apple's site yet, so keep your eyes peeled and let us know what you find.

Well, I just look at this commercials and giggle. Macs have their uses. They are for the people who want to make podcasts, edit videos, and edit music... oh wait, you can do that on PCs. Well, then they must be for those that are more familiar with the Mac OS... oh wait, as a child most schools use PCs. Hmmm, well, people who use Macs, must prefer, as this ad states, just using the computer straight from the box. But wait, on XP machines, doesn't it install the needed software for you that you don't have for you? I think so... fairly confident. Positive. Well then, my conclusion is that Macs are for those that don't want build their own machines, run a lot of the really cool games out there, and hate the convienence of double-clicking.

On second thought... perhaps the ad is correct! Fencing is a two way sport that includes exchanges on both sides. Perhaps 'Touché' is only valid in a debate or argument situation.

The comment from the mac guy was not a retort from a statement that the PC guy made, so maybe it is not a valid use of 'Touché'. Even still I don't think that the ad is very clear and I think it will confuse people who may not have a clear understanding of the word (like me).

I would still like confirmation of the semantics of the word.

Ads are available at http://www.apple.com/getamac/

I think that the touché ad is actually incorrect. "Touché" is a word that is used when someone makes a good point, it does not need to neccesarily be a counter point. The word comes from fencing, it is said when a fencer is hit by the foil of an opponent. The person who receives the strike may offer touché as a congratulatory comment. Sort of like the equivalent of "well done, you got me".

I'm very surprised that Apple did not thoroughly vet before allowing it to air. I'm not a french speaker so I could be wrong but that is my understanding of the word.

That pointroll video playback is worse than even the infinitely popular YouTube.

Apple's site now has superb crisp QuickTime movies available:

#7 (Will) - You're just forgetting about a one thing when you say "format the drive and resintall windows" - last I checked, most of the pc companies out there (Dell, I'm talking about you) dont even give you a copy of windows so you can just wipe all their shit. Yes, they give you a "recovery" disk, but last I checked, the only thing those disks recovered was the shit that you spent 48 hours trying to delete. Plus even when you pay them for an actual windows disk, you dont get a clean version; its still trashed w/ all the "by dell" crap... bastards.

I remember when i first opened my PC, it had a branded Internet explorer which i had to go in and delete random files in the IE directory to remove, on the mac, to delete the trial office and works its a simple case of highlight the file and press apple+backspace.

The PC trial software resembles spyware more than anything.

@Scott(13)

If by "most embarrassing" and "wincingly bad" you mean "witty" and "effective", then yeah...I see your point.
