Use Mail.app as a remote torrent client

An enterprising Mail.app user by the name of Matt Comi has ironed out a simple yet powerful trick for using Mail.app as a remote bittorrent client, of sorts. Basically, he set up a rule in Mail.app with a custom AppleScript that looks for torrent file attachments. This AppleScript then sends the torrent file to Azureus for downloading. Check out his site, Big Bucket Amusement, for instructions, screenshots and the script you'll need.

Thayne your method is great only if you have the luxury of using a Mac at work.

Why does everyone insisit on trying to do this the hard way?

The Azureus Widget has been out for almost a year and it's 10 times as easy and powerful.

Drag and drop a torrent onto the widget, and your torrent will be sent to your home computer and started. You can also monitor and manage remote torrents.

Stop trying to do this simple task the hard way please :)

Simple, in the rule just make sure it only executes if the message is from your own email address.

#1: I thought about that. What you could do is set the rule up to look for some kind of code in the subject (or body, whatever) you keep for yourself, that way you don't get torrent-bombed.

That's awesome. Browse torrents from work and relay them home for the d/l(where the ports arn't blocked). All the speed of the local machine to do so as well without the need to remote desktop in.

Just don't let your frends know which e-mail address you got this on. On 9/12/01 I came home from work (had an FTP setup on my PC) and the machine said "Low disk space on drive C:" The previous day I had 10Gig free. A friend of mine had uploaded so much footage. He was collecting it, and had that FXP thing syncing his DL directory with me and a couple of other friends' FTPs.
