SFGate reviews Mac impostors
I know Macs, sir, and you are no Mac. That's what I would say to the Gateway Profile 6SB, which looks just plain awful, if I were ever to find myself debating one (which is unlikely at best). However, that hasn't stopped the SFGate.com from reviewing two Macs (the Mac mini and the iMac) along side two PC's that look Mac-esque (the Gateway and a AOpen MiniPC).
Not to ruin the end of the article for you, but the Macs win out.

"Impostor"? Sorry, but the iMac was not the first all-in-one, and the Gateway Profile had a flat panel monitor before the iMac did, as did the Compaq Presario 3020 and 3060. (Which came out in 1996, a year before the TAM.) No sense mentioning the old "luggables," like old Kaypros and (again) Compaqs, or the little unit I have now, with Windows 3.1 and an 8" B/W LCD.
Kind of reminds me of how people were falling all over themselves when the TiBook came out... like they'd never seen a Sony VAIO 505 before. Sure, the PB was a bit smoother, but it was hardly the first thin, light, plain rectangle. The VAIO was even magnesium! The day I saw the TiBook I thought "Great! They finally dumped that old bulky form factor and copied the VAIO!"
we have something like that at my school. They're basically just a regular computer where the moniter base is bolted to the computer

June 20 2006 at 5:18 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyThe microsoft isnt even a true all in one, just lcd connected to the computer, what they should of compared it to is this: http://boldata.com/html/prod.cfm/view/1/list_id/417.htm
they arent bad except for the whole windows thing.
That thing pictured above looks like a 20th Anniversary Mac that exploded.
June 20 2006 at 4:32 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyWow... That is the WORST "supposed" Mac look-a-like I have EVER seen. The pc market keeps shelling out this awful awful looking machines (not even spekaing of the os they come with). Im not saying everything has to look sleek and beautiful, but for me to own it, it does.
The Mini clone looks slightly like it's sleeker cousin, but cmon!.. where are these designer's going to school?? Maybe they're taking that "art diploma by mail course".
RM (educational machines) started selling a iMac clone also, they also sell iPods for education... wish I knew that a year or two ago...http://www.rm.com/secondary/Products/product.asp?cref=PD608213
June 20 2006 at 1:23 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyMy review: I give that heap of junk 0 out of 10. It's not coming near my house. Well to be fair if you plugged it in it might work, so 1 out of 10.

However, that Gateway is really a beast..... ouch.
That Gateway computer reminds me of a Russian armored personnel carrier - stout, bulky and... utilitarian. It looks like a bunch of spare parts were fused together. Yikes.
