Several people have sent us this link purporting to show two screenshots of Apple's next update to OS X, Leopard (which will be OS X 10.5). Are they the real deal? Perhaps, but notice this post is listed under 'Rumors' and that's for a reason.
However, let's assume for the moment that they are real and think about what we're seeing. The menu bar includes the Boot Camp logo, the 'About this Mac' shows that Windows is installed on this Mac, not to mention the fact that IE 7 appears to be running inside of OS X. Pretty neat, but the only way we'll know for certain what'll be in Leopard is to wait until Steve's WWDC keynote.
Update: As we all suspected, they're fakes.

I thought windows had stopped developing internet explorer for osx. These pics are better and more realistic then the ones a few days ago, I say bring them on, we want more......

Azhar, there's been some scuttlebutt around the net about certain Windows apps running within Leopard on an Intel Mac. This might be proof of reality.
I know it sounds crazy, but two years ago, did anyone believe the rumors that Apple was developing OS X for Intel processors?
Also, Scott, I think you meant to say "Boot Camp Logo", not "Base Camp Logo". Minor nit.

Looks like address book & iCal have been combined, as well. However the edges on some of the icons (dashboard, safari) don't look quite right. I'm not sure I'm buying this one.

Do you mean BOOT camp? Basecamp (http://www.basecamphq.com) is from 37signals...

From the pictures I think that the impression we're supposed to get is that it's running the new version of internet explorer within windows xp under some sort of emulation scenario - take a look at the about this mac shot.

I don't buy it. Every iteration of OSX has had a different colored apple in the top left (if I remember correctly, Panther's was grey). This is using the same color as Tiger, so I think it's a fake.

This was on digg yesterday: http://digg.com/apple/New_Leopard_screenshots_hint_at_desktop_switching,_Windows_compatibility
It was nicely debunked there.

What this screenshot is trying to show is Windows apps running seamlessly in OS X ala Wine. This explains why Windows is shown in "About this Mac", prominent Boot Camp, etc. I still think it's a fake, but it does make some sense in that light.

These are much more convincing than the ones from the other day. Is it a coincidence?
One thing that strikes me is how close the icons are to the top of the dock, there's a much bigger gap in Tiger.

OMG, I really hope that Apple has more sense than to offer that cheap iMovie-ish transition for desktop changing.

The IE7 inside OS X is more likely to be Leopard being able to run Windows programs without windows, than a Mac version. Though it does seem like the general consensus is that this is a fake. Roll on the WWDC...

One more odd thing:
The Addressbook shows 'Jan 14'. At this date there was no Apple webpage with the whole notebook family including the Macbook.

Yeah the gap at the top of the dock made me suspicious too. Doesn't look right and I can't believe the designers at Apple would be happy with that. Of course I might be wrong, and it is supposed to be an unfinished OS so maybe.
Love the way the finder looks though, but I'm still not convinced.

As to the desktop switching, Desktop Manager has a few different options for transistions, it's logical to think that Apple would do the same, and thy are showing (if real) one of the more showy transitions here.

Scotty, another minor nitpik. Leopard isn't the next update to OS X 10.4, it's the next update to OS X. :-)

I'm calling fake. I think Apple's going to try to keep Windows nicely isolated, either via Parallels or Boot Camp. Integrating it (like it seems to be from the "About this Mac" box) seems to open up a lot of security holes.
Plus the desktop switch is STRAIGHT out of iMovie. Anyone with enough spare time and photoshop could do this.

That is because the day on iCal when it's not running is Jul 17 (the day they anounced iCal back in the day). So if this is correct, we can expect to see Leopard out on Jan 14?! I doubt it, unless Jobs wants to keep up with Microsoft, I'd expect Leopard much sooner.
