10.4.7 v. 2 for Intel
AppleInsider brings news that Apple will soon release an updated version of the 10.4.7 software update for Intel machines. According to the company, certain files pertaining to OpenGL performance are missing from the 10.4.6 to 10.4.7 updater package; all other packages including combo updates shipped with the files the first time around. The revised update is not yet available on the Apple website or through Software Update, but it is safe to assume that MacOSXUpd10.4.7Intel.dmg will show up sometime later today. No word yet on whether or not users who already applied the first updater will have to re-run the installer, or if they will receive a patch with the missing files.

I reinstalled the update after reading about this on the Apple Insider forum page related to it (http://forums.appleinsider.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=64525).
After installing the "first" version of the update, my MacBook 2.0 became incredibly slow, spinning wheel for periods of time, and minimizing windows to the dock became a slow, painful choppy experience.
After re-installing the update (not through Software update, but from the update page at Apple's site), the MacBook is back to it's pre-update speed and minimizing is zippy.
To check your update build version go to About this Mac->System Profiler->Software. Check your System Version. The fixed update should be Mac OS X 10.4.7 (8J2135a). The first version of the update was build 8J2135. Note the "a".
Ahh, back in Happy MacBook Land...
Linksys router retired by Apple Airport Express. Now able to see shared folders using Parallels. Never could with the LS. Try a different setup would be my suggestion.

Seriously, it's one of the reasons I've never bought Linksys, have had too many strange compatibility issues with clients. They also seem to be pretty hit-or-miss about fixing problems, so hopefully Apple or someone else will release a workaround for you...
#27 - Tony. I'm having the exact same problem. It only occurs when I'm on battery occasionally the connection will drop. I too use a Linksys WRT54G and the DD-WRT firmware. I've tried toggling "Interface Robustness" but it doesn't seem to help. My only solution was to open a terminal session and just have it endlessly ping the router to keep the connection alive, which seems to work. Perhaps there's a deeper problem between the intelBooks & Linksys routers?
June 30 2006 at 2:43 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyI have a 17" MBP and I got my wife a MB. When either one of them are on batteries in our house, our wireless just stops working every few minutes or so. I've got 5 bars, so I know the connection is good. You have to go and re-select your network and it comes rigt back on. She complained about it to me on her MacBook but then when I got my MBP it was doing the same thing.
I'm using a Linksys WRT54G with the DDWRT firmware.
well my mbp just decided to stop booting into osx altogether after 10.4.7. verbose showed hanging around parallels network inits, but after target disk and killing all parallels stuff, still no go.
irony is that i'm posting this from my Windows partition, which has never failed to boot, even in the direst of situations.
Has anyone tried iChat AV from one Imac intel to another Imac intel? I tried last night with the GF and was greeted by errors. I have both machines updated with the x.4.7 update. With the comments of this patch missing OpenGL parts, it makes sense.

The solution of a) removing all keys and b) removing the connections from preferred network connections and then rebooting worked for me. I seem to be ok now, but I'm not too happy about the overall quality of this "update". I am also pretty willing to believe that where there is one problem there are usually others.

I installed 10.4.7 on my MBP last night and didn't notice any problems.
No wireless issues for me either.
