The Omni Group hints at Yet Another Product
It's a sad, sad day when the Mac world gets all giddy over some third-party application that does something somehow for whatever reason -- but we're not really sure what -- though it has a yellowish icon and is supposedly eagerly requested by a bunch of people and is, after all, by the same company that brought you OmniWeb, OmniGraffle, OmniOutliner, and OmniDazzle (you know, that other product we were all giddy about). And despite the vague (viz: non-existent) description and the lack of hints as to its purpose, I am excited to hear about the new mystery app the fine folks at The Omni Group are cooking up. All they'll tell us is that it's repeatedly requested, the pic shown here is a blurred image of it, and it is not a replacement for Mail and is not a word processor.
So why spread non-information, you ask? Well, because if you correctly guess what it is (in the blog post's comments) you'll get a super-secret sneak peak at the future OmniWhatever. And then you could slip us a note as to what it is.
I mean, not like we're condoning you breaking the trust of The Omni Group and leaking information regarding OmniSecret. That would just be wrong -- and if you do, frankly, I'm not sure we could be friends anymore. We love those guys.
But yeah. You know how to reach us.

Omni is doing an admirable job at getting the word out about their products and, knowing them, it is hard not to get excited at the thought they have something cooking. My only regret is that it is not a Mail replacement! ;^)

When is the "enhance" function from CSI, 24 and all the crappy spy movies when you need it?

I think it looks like a sip-phone-conference app with Omni-magic inside!

it's omniRumour. It generates an apple "rumour of the day" to give us something to talk about when when the blogging is slow.
I can stop any time I like...

I'm guessing it's some sort of personal organizer (a.k.a. a SOHO Organizer killer).
My guess is that it will be called "OmniOrganizer". Lord knows MacOS needs a good PIM, and if anyone would do it well it would be the OmniGroup.
...just my 2¢

Maybe it's OmniBlur...generate blurry icons with a single click.

It's OmniLock, a way to protect notes and other stuff like contacts etc. I just wish it can cooperate with Stickies or Dashboard notes.
And the speculation may go on.

With the popularity of OmniOutliner as a cult, "Getting it Done" tool (See 42 Folders website) I am betting the app will be a Palm version of OmniOutliner a la Filemaker mobile. Even at Palm application prices, they could make a fortune.

It's a project management app. I think.

I think I read somewhere that they were making an app that clipped the silent parts of your MP3s without re-encoding them. Or was that another company that gets me all giddy? Anyway, since I could really use that app, and thought about writing it myself, that must be it.

I think all this 'mystery app' stuff is done by Omni for just two reasons:
1. marketing: create expectations, blog space, etc.
2. Get lots of free new product ideas.

I also vote for a dedicated GTD app similar to kinkless

We sure don't get much information from that blurry icon, but I'm going to have to go with Omni Urine Tester.

I with EJP (#6) and Jacob (#7); it's either a PIM or a spreadsheet (I want both!).

If they make a GTD app, great, it will rock. If they do not, great, I'll continue to build mine :-)

I agree with whoever said OmniLock - that's what I thought as soon as I saw the icon, and it's something that has a huge demand behind it. Some kind of file-password-protection app.
(I want a million quid if I turn out to be right.)
