Elgato's EveTV for DTT features Front Row-like interface/Apple Remote integration

Elgato today announced the eyetv for DTT which allows you to record and play back programming from DTT (Digital Terrestrial Television to you) on your Mac. This little USB 2.0 stick just plugs into your Mac (if you're using a MacBook it won't cover the MagSafe port) and bam your Mac is a PVR (only if you're in a country that uses DTT though). How much for this wonder of technology? €99.
But wait, that's not all! The software included with the eyetv DDT (and soon coming for the rest of the eyetv line) includes a Front Row like interface for watching live TV and your recordings. Best of all, it even uses the Apple remote.

EyeTV 2.3 supports Hauppauge's WinTV Nova-T Stick. Front Row can be installed on a Mac without the IR receiver (with the Front Row enabler). This Mac can then be controlled with an Apple remote if the EyeTV for DTT stick is connected (and the EyeTV 2.3 software installed). Can this same be done if ONLY the Nova-T Stick is connected (and the EyeTV 2.3 software installed)? In other words, does the Nova-T stick recognise the Apple remote?

There are ways you can install front row without an apple remote enabled computer. For example, I have it on my iBook. So if you want to use this to the full, go to http://andrewescobar.com/frontrow to get a tutorial of how to do it.
But it does say on the website that even if you don't have front row "the Full Screen Menu works just fine without it." So don't worry - it'll work fine.
yes, the full screen menu system works independently of front row (says on sight) and appears to link to front row (if you have it) btw if you want front row on ya powerbook, it runs great, theres plenty of info on the web on how to do it!

Dammit..... I bought the older version YESTERDAY! Meh, nevermind. It rocks anyway!
July 15 2006 at 3:46 AM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyI've ben the using the 410 for sometime and will be buying this new one for the office as soon as it hits the shops. One thing, these devices still do not have that great benefit that the old VCR offers; record one station, watch another. Even having two EyeTV boxes hooked to the one Mac, you can only run one version of the App at a time. Although, with 2 boxes it may be possible to run V1.x and V2.x simultaneously....will get back to you.
