London thugs grabbing iPods
Its hard out there for a London iPod listener. It would seem that muggings are up on the streets of fair London and the Bobbies blame iPods (and other expensive portable electronics). Luckily, the good fellows at Crave Talk have a few ways of concealing your iPod from would be attackers. Most of the methods are rather imaginative (some are even rather impressive) though I think they might be more fun to write about than actually do.I say, wear black headphones and be ever vigilant. It is a dangerous world out there.

p.s. lives in London that is, not just England and I'm English, hence being a bit of a wind up merchant.
It is funny though how often iPod crops up these days being blamed for anything from deafness, to street crime and who knows what else.
Visted many many many many times being I live in England and my sister lives there, my brother has lived there and worked there. : ) London is hot, crowded, expensive and dirty. Sure it has its nice bits, but it's not somewhere I'd want to live personally. Of course, all those things could be things other people love about London.
That's right OWRC, classic British Jobsworth attitude of the authorities here. "You got mugged? Well you were pretty stupid weren't you?"
Of course try and be a vigilante Texas-style and it's a whole other ballgame...
Correction: de Menezes didn't even have a gun.

Perhaps the police should stop blaming the victims and catch some criminals for a change. this si typical government spin to avoid confronting the fact that their record on crime is simply diabolical.

PS. I live in Hackney, London...
Its been possible to block stolen phones if stolen, if you have a GSM phone. It was built in the original standards, and many companies produced the network element to block those stolen phones. But the vast majority of carriers either never purchased these components, or never turned them on.
Regarding the stealing iPods - perhaps they could looking at why people steal etc. Rather than what they steal?
Totally unrelated but is anyone else feeling nauseous from the Get Zwinked banner add and right side panel on this site?

Good one Kowalski. You're the last beautiful free soul on this planet. 'cause 1971 was a good year.
What I think Apple (and cell phone companies) should do is figure out a way to make ipods (or cell phones) useless if they're reported stolen. The serial number for that stolen ipod would no longer allow the ipod to function in certain ways, such as in the ITMS, or syncing or having its software updated. Must be some way to achieve that to some degree at least. Without many or any downsides.
