OmniWeb 5.5 beta goes public
Finally, after dealing with a wait no individual should ever have to endure, The Omni Group has blessed us with the official public beta release of OmniWeb 5.5 (unlike the semi-private "public" release in April). According to the OmniWebsite, the app includes the following enhancements:- OmniWeb is now a Universal Binary!
- OmniWeb now supports saving in the WebArchive format via the "Save As..." panel.
- There is now a global and site preference for user defined style sheets in the Appearance pane.
- Toolbars in OmniWeb now use the Unified Toolbar.
- A warning will now appear when you try reloading a page using POST.
- When loading a workspace containing POST pages, the page will display an error but can be reloaded to rerequest the page.

Does anyone know a simple and easy way to add ad and flash blocking strings to this app? It's the one thing that I cannot live without and hampers me from using the program for longer than a few minutes.

It is indeed great news, but I'm just waiting for the slew of "who in their right mind would PAY for a browser??!" comments!

Enable ad-blocking and add a line for '.swf', and you should be set. I sent Omnigroup an email about flash blocking, and that's what they suggested to me.

OMNIWEB 5.5 RUNS ON OPEN-SOURCE SOFTWARE! OMNIWEB 5.5 IS ROUTINELY MODERATED +5 INSIGHTFUL ON SLASHDOT! OMNIWEB 5.5 MET WIL WHEATON ONCE! OmniWeb 5.5 has no concept of an indoor voice! OmniWeb 5.5 blathers on incessantly about the GPL!

But it doesn't seem to work with Blogsmith's editing bar, just like Safari and Opera.

Great news, agreeing with Jon on his comment. I'm sure they'll be rolling in shortly. It really is a great browser.

I used to use OmniWeb exclusively - until I started using Gmail. I switched to Camino solely for Gmail. The day OmniWeb supports chat and rich formating (not that I use it) will be the day I switch back. I know that this is a Safari/WebKit issue, but as an user that's not really my problem - I just need something that works.

I used to use OmniWeb exclusively until I started using Flickr a year ago. OmniWeb could not do Flickr slideshows and I complained about then - never fixed. That's when I switched to Firefox.

srsly answer the question if its such a riduculous notion. What does this offer that free browsers don't.

@7 - you can actually have rich formatting and chat in OmniWeb when using Gmail. Just load your gmail inbox, click on View > Show Page Info. Then click on Preferences > Other > "Identify to web servers and scripts as" Firefox 1.5. It's hidden in there, but its doable, and works perfectly.

@ 7 and @10 : in OW 5.5 all you need to do is click on the "Site Preference" icon on the tool bar (or in the status bar) once you're at GMail's home page.
On the "Other" tab select Firefox 1.5 or any other browser that works with GMail, and then reload the page. GMail should work properly.
I totally love the "Site Preferences" and the "Workspace" features. I am returning to OW with v5.5 as I left it when it was @ v4 for Safari. I didn't like Camino and can't stand FireFox on the Mac; but I keep both around for web development testing.
