DVD Newsroom chats with an 'Apple employee'
Lots of people have sent us this link to DVD Newsroom's interview with an anonymous 'Apple employee' (even Engadget has covered it). This interview screams fake to me, but I have been known to make mistakes so I'll leave it to your judgment whether this interview sounds legit. The unnamed Apple employee says that Apple is working on merging the iPod with a cell phone, but don't expect anything soon. So far, so good. Sounds real enough. She goes on to say that Apple will be supporting Blu-ray and that a Mac with built in Blu-ray drive might ship in Oct/Nov. I can see that happening. She then goes on to say that 'Apple is a silo' and that Apple employees find out about new products when they are announced, which I know is true for a vast number of Apple employees, though this alleged Apple employee is talking about products that have yet to be released. Red flag number one.
Now that we have our first red flag let's sally forth into the rest of her comments. She notes that the new Apple monitors will have 'iChat built in' which, of course, makes no sense. I am assuming she meant build in iSights, which would make more sense though I would hope an Apple employee would know the difference between the two products. She says that brushed metal will be gone in Leopard, and more integration and iChat features are the dealine items (which jibs with what PowerPage reports, though rumors backing up rumors is much like a house built on sand).
The final nail in the coffin, for me at least, is that when asked about Zune (that's Microsoft's answer to the iPod) she says that Apple is encouraging them to include Bluetooth and Wifi because the device will then have a 30 minute battery life. She follows this up by saying that the next iPod will have Airport (aka WiFi) built in. Huh? I'm so confused, is WiFi a good or bad thing?
So, let's hear it, do you think this is legit or just some bored blogger looking for traffic?

That sounds horribly fake. Yeah there are some legit ideas like monitors incorporating iSight into all monitors but the fact that this "employee" sounds as though they've got the names of their own products mixed up is a littler perplexing.

The thing that did it for me is the silo comment. You are telling us about new products and then telling us that you would have no way of knowing about them.
FAKE

Pointless speculation at this stage, if you ask me, but this sounds like someone desperately needing attention.

I work for Apple. Anyone, no matter where in the organisation, who was this candid, would be clearing their desk the next day and hiring a very good lawyer. This is either stupidly brave, or, more likely, a complete fake.

I could write better fake stuff than that. Actually I have.

I agree with SW, but as a former employee at Apple, I can vouch that there are departments that do see products many moons before the rest of the company knows what's going on or how these products work.
Someone's got to test these things, right?

No, the source is right. The next monitors will have iChat--the program--built in. Like, in a ROM or something. So you won't even need a computer. It'll be so awesome!!!!11 :-)

I'm not too creative but I could do such a better job at faking such an interview. Too many obvious flaws and ridiculous statements to list to have any real validity.
Best wishes,
Kimmy
