Get the skinny on Spaces

Our good friend Dan Frakes, writing for Macworld, takes a look at Spaces which is Apple's virtual desktop manager to be introduced in Leopard. Dan points out that Apple isn't the first to think of this feature (much like Time Machine) but that they have implemented it well.
Dan gives Spaces a very thorough going-over and ends up with some unanswered questions. Here's hoping that Apple is listening (which I bet they are).

Um... Apple *is* the first to do anything like Time Machine. There is no other feature of any other application or operating system that can let applications' UIs stay live while browsing and searching over historical file state, then bring individual records (not just entire files) to the present. The backup component of Time Machine may have been done before, but that's only half the feature.
Spaces, on the other hand, is just a nice implementation of virtual desktops.

They're taking my Cmd+Arrows?!
But... OS X makes me so freaking productive with Cmd+Arrows and Opt+Arrows. Now I'm going to have to start using the control key? I hate the control key!
If that can be changed (and God help me, I hope so) I intend to use Cmd+Opt+Arrows for Spaces, as it should be :).

The Amiga had a virtual desktop native in 1985. In addition to moving thru the pages with Amiga M - Amiga N keys it also let you mouse to the top pixel of the screen and drag left mouse down like window shades. Everything kept animating all the while which was cool too. :D

Kit, I was just about to comment on the same thing.
"Pressing Command+arrow (left/right/up/down) shifts to the next workspace in that direction."
The command+arrow is very useful for jumping to and from the end of sentences, and it's something I've got used to.
I'm sure we'll be able to change the default for Spaces, but It seems dumb to infringe on an already well used key combination.

Guys, Ctrl, Cmd AND Opt does the same thing while using the arrows. You can go to the end or the start of sentences with does combinaisons. So taking out the Cmd + arrow will still let you use Ctrl + arrow and Opt + arrow for you sentences back and forth movement.

Oh actully it seems that Ctrl + arrow goes back and forth from the beginning of th sentences to the end. Option + arrow goes to the next ponctuation in the sentence. As fot Cmd + arrow, it depends in which programs. In text edits it does go back and forth, but in adium it for changing windows.
