Apple releases Boot Camp 1.1 beta

Apple has updated Boot Camp to version 1.1 with a number of new enhancements and compatibility fixes, including:
  • Support for the latest Intel-based Macintosh computers (I'm assuming this means the Mac Pros)
  • Easier partitioning using presets for popular sizes
  • Ability to install Windows XP on any internal disk
  • iSight camera support
  • Support for built-in microphones
  • Right-click when pressing the right-hand Apple key on Apple keyboards
  • Improved Apple keyboard support including Delete, PrintScreen, NumLock, and ScrollLock keys
Instructions for updating are provided at the Boot Camp site (and I would assume along with the Boot Camp install itself as well), but it's pretty simple: install the new version, burn a new CD of drivers, then flip over to Windows and install them.

This might be a long shot, but I wonder if this update might make running Vista - either in its current version or the upcoming RC1 - easier. Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks Blair!

Here's something for gamers and others needing top performance when running on the Windows XP side of a Dual Core Intel Mac:

Computers that are running Windows XP Service Pack 2 and that are equipped with multiple processors that support processor power management features may experience decreased performance

A useful tip to save wasting a CD when upgrading your Windows drivers is by having a look in the menu bar when you run the updated Boot Camp Assistant. In the 'Utility' there is a 'Save Macintosh Drivers to Folder' option which saves all the Windows drivers to a folder rather than burning onto a CD. This way you can put them on a memory stick, directly on your XP partition or access them from you Mac OS X drive in windows!

As an aside, did the beta download page always say thanks for trying the next OSX, Leopard..?

Actually you can get the drivers without burning from the Boot Camp Assistant...

Utility -> Save Macintosh Drivers to Folder from the Boot Camp Assistant

It's nice to have the brightness and volume keys functioning finally, though having to repress for each increment is a bit annoying, it's still fine. I'm not sure if it's now possible on the MBP, but I can't seem to find anything mentioning a print screen key assignment, which is pretty much the only thing left that I miss (well, that and touchpad scrolling, which makes me wonder if maybe some synaptics drivers could be modified to work, as scrolling and various click functions have been built into those for some time.)

This install hosed windows xp for me last night. Blue Screens, reboots, etc... I finally got up and running after several hours of troubleshooting but now my wireless doesn't work. Anyone have any ideas on what might've happened? Did those drivers just not get installed? During the driver installation process it was asking me constantly if I wanted to overwrite stuff and I just kept saying yes.
