A variety of ways to get IE 6 running in OS X

IE 6: web designers need to know about it, specifically they need to know how their sites look in that beastie. Many designers are using Macs, thanks to their discerning tastes, so historically they haven't had access to IE 6. That all changed with the Intel switch, and we have mentioned one method of getting IE on your Mac without Windows.

What if you crave more options? This list is for you then. Kevin Hale has gathered a number of different ways to accomplish one thing: get IE 6 running on your Mac. Some require Windows, others don't but this is a great place to start if you need IE 6 and you don't want a PC.

Interesting... The link to his wine install didn't work, though. I went out and grabbed a copy of Darwine instead, and that doesn't seem to want to work either on my MBP. Hmmmm... I guess I'll wait for smarter folks than myself to fill in the gaps.

gish... i wish there was something like the WINE solution or CrossOver Mac for us Mac/PowerPC users.
I currently use VirtualPC to get IE6 going on my mac... but it's slow and painful.

I'll probably tinker with WINE again.

Aside from webdev, I'm a college student and am forced to use the crappy software from Pearson Education which is mostly Windows only (because of their cryptic old ActiveX plugins for IE6... grrr...).

I keep thinking... what if microsoft didn't stop IE development on the mac... or what if they surprise us with IE7 on the mac... alas, I might just suffer with VirtualPC on my PowerPC macs until I bit the bullet for an IntelMac. You Intel-ers have it so easy.

Anyone have any suggestions for us PowerPC users besides upgrade or suffer?

People need it for web development. IE still baffles us on how it doesn't work with straight, well-formed code.

Thanks for this list!

I'd prefer that someone take the IE 6 Solo with WINE method (http://episteme.arstechnica.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/8300945231/m/397003349731) and package it into a .pkg so that anybody can run the package, run the IE 6 installer (or preferably combine the two together into a single pkg/dmg) and have IE 6 available.

Don't bother to ask why someone would want IE on OS X.

BTW Safari is my favourite browser with Konqueror (Linux) making second place and Firefox (Windows) making third.
