Woz talks to Wired

I expect a flurry of interviews with Steve Wozniak in the coming weeks. Why? Because he is out and about to promote his forthcoming autobiography: iWoz. Wired sat down with the man who co-founded Apple and spoke about the book, Segways, and driving a Hummer to the South Pole.

The most interesting bit of the interview comes when Steve Jobs is mentioned. As you may, or may not, know Jobs declined to write the foreword to the book because he thought he came off in a less than stellar light in the book. Woz thought that was the wrong decision but didn't want to pressure Steve into doing it. Ah, just like the good old days, I bet.

The book will be hitting bookshelves on September 25th.

Nate-
You've got to admit that in Woz' complaint letter, he is very specifically denying saying things that were very specifically said by him. As far as a 'spin to what was said and what was written', looked like paraphrasing to me. Definitely not atypical of an interview piece.

Seems like a nice guy, but definitely living in his bubble.

Fyodor,
About that Novak article, if you read the transcript and then his article, there definitely is a spin to what was said and what was written. It's as if Novak mixed and matched Woz's quotes to get an angle he wanted.

It's OK to call a former genius a goofball. Seriously, have you ever seen anyone look like anything but a douchebag on a Segway?

"He plays with toys and knocks balls around on his Segway whilst managing to surface every other month to remind us all how important he once was."

He also raises money tirelessly for charity, organizes (and participates in) a community theater group for troubled kids, and shows up to trade shows and expos when asked to speak, and actually is very approachable in person.

All hail his past deeds, but he acts like a self-aggrandizing twat. Are these mutually exclusive concepts? He plays with toys and knocks balls around on his Segway whilst managing to surface every other month to remind us all how important he once was. When he can't get attention on his own merits, he'll toss out something assinine to the press then lie about it (see: http://www.nzherald.co.nz/section/story.cfm?c_id=5&ObjectID=10370890).

It's better to burn out than to disingenuously fade away.

quite an astonishing lack of reverence here for one of the men who made this all possible. surely, as one of the garage-based founders of Apple Computer he deserves icon status. whatever you might think of the man, he has his significant place in Apple history.

"Woz is a dumb ass"
"What a douche. It's a fat manboy with more money than sense."

WTH? He was one of the more brilliant computer engineers of all time. I doubt you even know half of what he did, even though the computer you are sitting in front of would be quite different (in a bad way) if it lacked woz's innovation...

Anyone able to get the full interview to work? It won't open in QT or iTunes.

I respect the man for his Apple days and I am sure he is a good programmer but he is just so very annoying.
