CPSC and Apple get recall battery lists synced
We've noticed around the web, and also received a number of reports from you observant readers, that the list of recalled batteries didn't quite match up between the CPSC (U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission) and Apple. Understandably, quite a bit of confusion was building over this, but fortunately, InsanelyMac News is reporting that the CPSC has updated their list to match Apple's, so everyone should be on the same page now. Also, we and others have been linking to various battery recall pages, missing the correct page for this most recent recall and causing even more trouble. This is the proper link for the most recently announced 1.8 million battery recall page, so we hope this helps clear things up.

Sweet! I just got my new battery in the mail TODAY! Way to go Apple! (of course on the day I called, the support guy didn't even know about the most recent recall - but that was the day of the recall)
Thank you for the tuaw post and everyone's comments. I too was very confused and frustrated.
Mine ended with 9ZD so my battery is ok (for now?) (12" ibook).
Jon #3 comments helped. thank you.
"Why they didn't include this info from the beginning is a mystery. It would have saved a lot of headache."
I think they only found out at a later date. It's in their interests to make it seem like a small number of machines are affected. I'd imagine that the actual number of recalls is a lot lower than 1.8 million with the new adjustments.
I'm keeping mine as long a s possible. It hasn't exploded yet...

Paul: Many people, including me, got that error. They have now fixed it for me, so I would presume that the second rep was correct in saying that your battery was fine.
They have now updated their site as well. Before it said "6C519 - 6C552", now it says "6C519 - 6C552 ending with S9WA, S9WC or S9WD" (for the 12" iBook), so it would seem as if some serials came from a different batch.
There is still lots of confusion. My serial number, that is clearly in the range of recalled units, is not accepted by Apple's online request form. One Apple phone rep told me it was a problem with the form, and I needed to try again later. The next Apple phone rep said the form is correct, and not all batteries within the specified range are being recalled. He said my battery is fine.
Apple's website doesn't say anything about only certain batteries within the range are being recalled, it just gives the range. I've also read many accounts of people getting the same rejection that I'm getting, but it eventually goes through. I don't know what to think anymore. I'm very frustrated!
