Birmingham, Ala. Apple Store confirmed

Put on your party hats, Mac users in Birmingham! The Birmingham News is confirming Eddie Bauer's departure from the Summit Mall is Apple's gain, as they'll be taking over the now vacant space (it's #28, if you're fluent in mall-speak). You may have heard rumors a couple of years ago regarding an Apple store in Birmingham. What has the hold up been? Just ask Libby Lassiter, who is the executive vice president of development and leasing for Bayer Properties:

"...the center was in negotiations with Apple several years ago, but the space available for the store was too small...by six inches."

Sweet!
Yes, I live in Birmingham, but you can't avoid that fact that many things about Alabama are very, very backwards. Take for instance our thousand page constitution with some really racist language still intact. But G money, that doesn't make you any less of a d**. A few of us have functioning brains.
There are boatloads of cash in southern Birmingham and a large interest in Macs - I have convinced at least 7 people to switch. About time they got a store, actually.

Anyone know how I can apply to become a sales rep, or any details on when the store is going to open?

G money is an anal-retentive neandrethal. Any second-grader knows that all state nemes are capitalized. We also have indoor plumbing in Alabama.

cary,

I don't think it will be possible to notice the extra traffic on 280 generated by the Apple Store. The highway is already handling about FIVE TIMES the amount of traffic for which it was designed. It looks like there's a good chance that construction will begin relatively soon on a limited-access highway running above 280 from the foot of Double Oak Mountain up to the EB Stephens Expressway, though.

G Money - ever heard of this little organization called NASA? Their Marshall Space Flight Center is in Alabama. You might remember them for technological achievements such as LANDING A MAN ON THE F!*%ING MOON. Yes, they use computers.

Thank you Apple, I'm tired of having to drive to Atlanta to hit the Apple Store. The Summit is a great spot for Apple and its 2 hours closer to me!

Apple Store in Mobile? I've heard rumors but nothing concrete.

Actually, Eddie Bauer isn't leaving the Summit, they are just moving their location to another part of the shopping center and opening some sort of concept store.

#6 - iawtc.

chances are i'll be there with a camera for the opening. i am wondering how this will impact the two local mac stores already in place. (one of them i couldnt care less if it went away. its a bunch of cheesedicks)

i _am_ happy its coming for sure.

and the summit, in theory, is the perfect place for it, but good GOD 280 doesnt need more traffic. i guess you have to live here to get that reference.
