Engadget gets their hands all over Apple's new gear

The good folks at Engadget were on the scene reporting from the Apple event today. As such they were able to give the new gear a once over thanks to Apple. They checked out the iTV, a 2GB nano, the new iPod, and the iPod shuffle. Head on over and feel the technolust.

they should call it the CineMac. It gets past the "i" products and incorporates the new "Mac" product lines.

come on apple!
There's something not right about this. Apple showing hardware ahead of it's release? That's not how they operate...
A streaming media box with HDMI and component output that's marketed to the 'big screen TV' crowd, but content is only 640x480. That's not right...
I think Apple announced this to force the hand of studios. Once they're shown what the market demand is likely to be, the dollar signs in their eyes will overcome their fears of allowing downloads of 720p content.
No deal on the iTV for me. There is no way I will be converting all my videos to an iTunes compatible format so I can stream it to my iTV.
After thinking carefully about what Apple would offer in the way of supported playback formats in the future I went out and bought a Mediagate MG-350HD with a 320GB Hard drive last week. This thing will play 99% of the videos you can throw at it, can be networked wired or wirelessly and can be used as an external hard drive.
Granted that I am not the market that the iTV is aimed at but there are a lot of us out there with a large collection videos (movies) in non iTunes formats that aren't prepared to convert.
Could it be that apple plans to buy a DVR company like tivo and that is why Steve did the unthinkable and announced a product ahead of its release? It'd be pretty hard to keep a company buyout under raps?!?

love it when apple unveils a bunch of new gear... then it only saddens me to know it will be another 6months/1yr til the next big apple thing..
Do the new iPods support Playlist Folders? I really hope so. This is probably the most obviously missing feature of any older iPod.
