iPod nanos get storage boost, aluminum bodies, and colors

Dare I say, 'Return of the iPod mini?' Apple just revamped their entire line of iPod nanos, and the first thing that strikes you is that they are available in colors. Silver, pink, black, green, and blue though no white. The nanos also have a new aluminum body that makes them even better for jogging and other fitness activities.

What else is new? Brighter screens and longer battery life, Apple claims that the nano will get 24 hours of life out of a single charge.

You can choose from 2GB (silver only, $149), 4GB (silver, pink, green, blue $199), or 8GB (black only, $249) models, and Apple will throw in free laser engraving.

Continue reading for a look at a nano in profile.

Pretty slender huh? And no, this isn't actual size (the nano's smaller).

Not sure why the US site isn't showing any education discount currently on the iPods. At the last ipod update (when the nano was introduced), the edu discount was available from the first day.

Sorry, but this design is just plain clunky. One of the things that made the Nano a hit was not only it's slim size, but it's design that made it seem feather light. The rounded corners and more importantly the transparent edges that made the lines of the edge disappear and the nano appear even slimmer. Boring. Try again, apple.

I'd much rather have a silver nano... but I want the 8 Gb model. They have said for some time that "black is the new white"... we just have to learn to accept that it won't match our white and aluminum gadgets...

So, do the click wheels light up on all of them except for the black one?

I love the nostalgic design- very reminiscent of the iPod mini of olde. I still wish they'd work on UI a little, as I still think Creative Labs beats them in that department (the ability to add songs to a playlist while other songs are playing, perhaps).

i dont understand any of the hate for the new design - the mini design was a classic, the nano was a perfect size so now we have the best of both worlds - the people complaining about it are probably the ones who did all the complaining about the scratches on the 1st nano

#8: I agree- I never liked the rounded edges of the iPod mini and welcomed the Nano form. Not to mention I must be the only one on the planet that thinks the colors are puke-a-licious. :::BLECK!:::
