New iPod shuffle: world's smallest digital music playback device

Apple has taken something small and made it even smaller. That's right the iPod shuffle is now half the size of its predecessor and only takes up 1 cubic inch in volume. This half ounce wonder pack 1GB of storage, is made of aluminum (Steve's favorite metal?) and will last for 12 hours on one charge.
This start shipping in October.
The Shuffle no longer just pops into any old USB port, you need to use the included dock to sync which is kind of a bummer.
All of this for $79? Ok, it isn't that much of a bummer.

I would love it if the shuffle would work with the new nike+ipod kits!

This is really slick. I have no use for one, but I just know I'll be buying it anyway. It is kind of a drag that it doesn't double as a flash drive. I quit using my shuffle for music long ago, but it's still quite handy as a flash drive.

Can anyone confirm one way or another whether you can use the shuffle as a flash drive or not? I tried looking on the Apple web site but there was no info.

I thought the major advantage of the iPod shuffle was that it doubles as a usb drive, and can be filled/charged without cables.

Yay, Apple is making us buy shuffles, then lose them in our messy rooms, then buy a new one. Brilliant!
It looks nice.

*yawn* it all a remake of the same old same old. Nanos with colours? Been there. Bigger storage space: expected. Games? Trivial. and the ipod shuffle is just the same thing that looks different and different is better. Until Steve ALLOWS us to have the video ipod obviously everyone wants, he's just playing with our wallets. I still haven't bought an iPod because I don't buy what isn't 1) what I want and 2) isn't what it could be. Touchscreens and bluetooth and four inch screens and lets-get-rid-of-all-the-gizmos-and-put-it-all-into-one-device-kind-of-thinking is thinking different and is techonologically possible. Sadly Steve is only catering to one consumer type, those under 25. Sure I want all the media stuff he is currently giving, but as a 30 year old, I also want and need some other stuff too, and small screens and no quickly Apple-smart integration with other aspects of my life just makes the iPod another thing to make me carry around. Sorry Steve, you're just reinventing what you've already done. That sounds to me like: Thinking Same.

I have just started working out again, and this little wonder seems like the perfect idea. I make a playlist of all workout music and just have the shuffle sync with that list. It clips onto whatever ratty shirt I bought in college that I'll wear on my run. Perfect.

Aw! It's a fake!
Been looking at the photographs on Apple's website, and all I kept thinking was My God! If these pics were ever included in a "rumor", we would all say "fake"!
The earbuds changed on the nano, but not on the shuffle, the gradients are not always good looking, and the screens are simulated (which is said to be a hint of a fake...?)...It's an obvious Photoshop!!!
(just kidding.)
