New iPod shuffle: world's smallest digital music playback device

Apple has taken something small and made it even smaller. That's right the iPod shuffle is now half the size of its predecessor and only takes up 1 cubic inch in volume. This half ounce wonder pack 1GB of storage, is made of aluminum (Steve's favorite metal?) and will last for 12 hours on one charge.

This start shipping in October.

The Shuffle no longer just pops into any old USB port, you need to use the included dock to sync which is kind of a bummer.

All of this for $79? Ok, it isn't that much of a bummer.

but the best thing about the shuffle was that it was cheap enough and large enough to stick/paint art onto it. you could make it really individual. if i ever got this i wouldn't feel like an individual without being able to customise it like my current shuffle. it is far too small!

I think the shuffle rocks I never would have bought the origional shuffle, I would buy this just to ware when riding a bike or motercycle because it would be so easy to change songs etc...

buy it. everyone should have at least two ipods: a large one for carrying everything around, and a small one for when you don't want to feel the weight in your pocket.

think I should save for a MBP or splurge on this? This looks great and will be great for when I go snowboarding and don't want to risk my 60gb 6g to a fall. It's so freakin tiny and cheap!!! wow.

Someone needs to fit the shuffle into a high end pair of headphones, such that there isn't a wire. And then, you've got the coveted wireless headset ipod everyone's been demanding.

Is that a battery pop-out button I spy on the top, or am I looking at some kind of light?

And what's with all the caps?

Aw! It's a fake!

Been looking at the photographs on Apple's website, and all I kept thinking was My God! If these pics were ever included in a "rumor", we would all say "fake"!

The earbuds changed on the nano, but not on the shuffle, the gradients are not always good looking, and the screens are simulated (which is said to be a hint of a fake...?)...It's an obvious Photoshop!!!

(just kidding.)

I have just started working out again, and this little wonder seems like the perfect idea. I make a playlist of all workout music and just have the shuffle sync with that list. It clips onto whatever ratty shirt I bought in college that I'll wear on my run. Perfect.
