Software Update: QuickTime 7.1.3 and Front Row 1.3

Software updates after a Stevenote? 'Natch! Fire up your Software Update, you brave souls, for there are new versions of QuickTime and Front Row.

The QuickTime update is 'is an important release that delivers numerous bug fixes and addresses critical security issues. This update is recommended for all QuickTime 7 users and is required for playback of content purchased in the iTunes Store.' I hope this means, 'Video playback in iTunes no longer sucks.'

The Front Row update 'provides for improved iTunes compatibility'.

At the time of this posting these updates are only available through Software Update.

Thanks to everyone who sent this in.

It is, though paintful, possible to edit the icons back to the iTunes 6 alternatives. Go to /Applications/iTunes -> package contents /Resources and /System/Library/CoreServices/Front Row -> package contents /Resources and swap the icns files in iTunes for those in the same place in iTunes 6 and MusicIcon.png from that of the same name from front rom 1.22. That said, you need someone who hasn't upgraded or an install disk with those versions on it. It is possible to extract them from the instal disk but its not that much fun to do.

The Front Row update now recognizes your movies and TV shows that you designate in ITunes 7. You can (finally!) organize your own videos into the TV Shows folder.

I downloaded these new updates and now iTunes 7 doesn't even recognize my Quicktime Pro as being the latest version (it is...).

I had to laugh when I read this:

"Front row now has the new iTunes icon. Eugh. Its horrible"

Shows how late he got into the game, I remember the blue logo from the first time round when iTunes was at version 2!
A welcome return from the one I always preferred!

So the "improved compatibility with itunes" means changing the color of the logo??

Seriously, where is that album art thingy in front row? You would have to be really stupid to not include that.

LOL to the guy who thinks he can update his hacked front row.

iTunes 7.0 requires Quicktime 7.1.3 o play videos from the iTM/VS. I suppose there is some kind of DRM update as well.
