ViewSonic unveils iPod dock equipped monitors
ViewSonic, the display company that will forever be known to me as 'That one with the 3 mildly creepy birds, has announced an LCD monitor with an integrated iPod dock. Docking your video enabled iPod allows you to play videos right on the monitor, which is pretty sweet. The monitor also functions as a normal iPod dock, as well as a USB 2.0 hub, and a 8-in-1 card reader. ViewSonic didn't stop there though, the monitor also includes a microphone, integrated stereo speakers and a subwoofer. That's quite a monitor.
The monitor line is expected to ship later this year, though no word on how much one of these will set you back.

That's quite a monitor indeed. And its look definitely fits the iPod.

Nice, but does it come in any other colors? How about white to match white iPods/MacBooks, or Aluminum to match Mac(Book) Pros?
One can only assume the dock can handle an insert for an iPod nano...

I'm not a fan of those all-in-one things, but this is quite nice. Isn't it a bit late for the iPod 5G?

the best way to watch movies on a big screen? connect your ipod dock to your monitor (plasma, lcd, or regular ole TV) of choice.

The iPod mpeg format is great on a two inch screen, but on a full-sized screen? Not so much.

with all the ipod "hifi" and loudspeaker contraptions on the market, ive been waiting forever for something with a screen.
why is ther nothing that allows you to dock your ipod and contol it via remote but with the ipod menu etc displayed on a screen.
i dont see the point of having a dedicated loudspeaker set-up that lets you play and control the ipod via remote, but has no screen so if you want to actually see anything in the menu you have to go over and squint at the display.
is there some reason why there isnt anything like this on the market, like apple not allow anyone to replicate the ipod interface?
if this "showtime" event brings a new ipod, and with wifi capabilities, it would be a perfect way for someone to design a dock with screen to plug the 6th gen ipod into, contol it via remote, while seeing the menu on the screen, watch those videos on it, and even connect to and download content.
now that i would buy!

This screen is overkill if you are watching content purchased from Apple(320x240).
but if you rip your own content from DVDs or record from eyeTV then you can record iPod content at higher resolutions.
MPEG4 Aspect Ratio Resolutions supported by iPod video
720 x 304 - 2.35:1 (Anamorphic = thicker letterbox bars)
624 x 336 - 1.85:1 (Academy Flat = thinner letterbox bars)
624 x 352 - 1.78:1 (16x9/U.S. Digital Television = thinest letterbox bars)
512 x 384 - 1.33:1 (4x3/NTSC Analog Television = no letterbox bars)
