Flickr Find: Unpacking a gen 2 iPod nano

Ah, the ritualistic unpacking pictures that have become part of any new Apple product. This time around we get to see Justin Williams unbox his blue iPod nano (gen2). He even compares it to a first gen nano. I'm not sure which I like more, but I do know that they are both pretty sexy.

The comments about Apple not including CDs is ABSOLUTELY STUPID. YOU ARE A DIALUP USER WHO CAN DOWNLOAD mp3s, iTunes tracks, or otherwise get music from various sources and OBVIOUSLY have a computer with the internet, but can't wait 15 minutes for a 21mb download?

Instead why doesn't Apple just go the way of AOL? Hell just mail CDs around the world, the new packaging was designed to be 52% more environmentally friendly and use less material. So including a CD is just stupid.

Sorry but if you have an iPod, you SOMEWAY, SOMEHOW will find a freaking way to get iTunes. And eventually they update iTunes all the time.... What should they do then? Mail you out an updater CD everytime a new iTunes version appears?

Seriously comments like yours about not including CDs must come directly from the IP of a pissed of competitor, or somebody who loves to HATE for the sake of hating.

Apple should instead include iTunes and Quicktime installers on the iPod itself. On it's initial connection to your computer, it can check to see if you have iTunes/Quicktime installed and if so, if it is older or newer than the version included on the iPod. It can then prompt you to update, or not if you choose.

No downloading or extra CDs required.

John: Why the 8GB nano instead of the 30GB iPod? The nano is much much smaller and lighter, pocketable, has a scratch-resistant aluminum housing and is RAM based (longer battery life, no hard drive, no moving parts). It's a question of portability more than anything and I suspect many nanos are secondary iPods for their owners.

I'm not in the U.S. and Amazon is pretty much the only online retailer that will accept my non-american credit card.

Query

Does the scroll wheel light up (which is suggested in the ad), or is Apple sending us a subliminal message?

john, my thoughts exactly. Maybe people just like the nano's design.. or are just clueless?

Guillermo, why through Amazon? It's not like it's any more inexpensive than if you were to go out to an Apple store (or Target/Wal-Mart/some-other-huge-department-store-here if you don't have one near you), and you'd get it more quickly just by driving out. ^_^;

i'd get pissed if apple kept packing them in.
i have a quite large stack of them

although, that could have been an extra 3 to the stack.
i'm glad it's not,
but i hope they havent lost the apple stickers ¬_¬

"Err...not really."

Not everyone has broadband. And I doubt dial-up people have patience to download a 25MB file.
