Quad core Core 2 Duo works in Mac Pro

That's a Mac Pro with 8 processors. Ok, so it really is only 2 processors with 4 cores each, but I bet that thing screams. The good folks at AnandTech just happened to have an engineering sample of Intel's forthcoming 'Clovertown' processor, and they thought, 'I wonder if the Mac Pro mother board can run with this.' So they swapped the processors out, and OS X didn't bat an eye (nor did the hardware).

This doesn't mean that you'll be able to upgrade the processors yourself, but it is a step in the right direction.

Thanks to everyone who sent this in.

Here's hoping that one day I get to hear Steve say "it goes to 11!"

As far as all of you seemed to be confused on the name/pronunciation of our beloved operating system, let me try to make it clear for you. Even though X was a brand new os compared to previous versions, they did not give it a fancy "matrix" type of name "OSX" or like an Acura NSX. It is quite simply the version number, 10 or X if you are roman. Remember the OS before X? It was 9. Apple is milking the X version and it will be a while before they get to OS-11, they have to go thru .6, .7, .8, .9, .9.8, .9.9 etc. When they finally hit version 11, I bet it will be OS11, and not OSXI, X is they only sexy roman numeral besides XXX, and we will all bve dead before we see Mac OS XXX.

jobs always calls it o-s-10, as do apple store employees. i think o-s-x rolls off the tongue more nicely, so thats what i call it.

excellent question though! that should be a tuaw poll!

'what do you call it? os-x, os-10, mac, vista that came out a few years ago'

It's in the Installation CD. DevApps or Developer Applications.

I think that'd be "Core 2 Quartet".

OS 10, not OS eX.

If you think about it, it came right after OS 9 . . .
