Skype announces video calls for the Mac
Rejoice, Mac-toting Skype users. You no longer have to bow your head in shame because your Mac can't handle video calls. Skype for Mac 2.0 beta (Beta version 2.0.0.2, if you want to be specific) will get the job done for you. The system requirements are as follows:- Mac computer with G4 800 Mhz processor or faster
- Mac OS 10.3.9 or later
- 512 MB RAM
- 40MB free disk space

Just installed it. Sound and video was great. I've never used iChat before so I can't compare. I'm sure the Windows version of Skype has much more features tht the Mac version, for example, it would be great if I could leave an offline voice message, SMS, desppite all that this is a step in the right direction.

My video stalls after about a second. It may pick up again for a few seconds, but then I'm stuck with a frozen image.
I'm not using an iSight, but this has not been a problem for iMovie, iChat, ...
Video.... coolness, but when are they gonna let us mac-o-phles do the SMS???

I'll give this 2.0 beta a try, but if they haven't improved the video/audio quality from 1.5, then I'm still sticking with iChat. iChat especially blows me away when both ends of the video chat are on a high speed internet connection, as you can get full 640x480 resolution. I hope skype can do this too, but I'm doubting it...
