Product placement in Hold 'Em for iPod
Ah, the powerful tactic of product placement, in which a real, commercial product is used in a fictional setting (for a fee, of course). Check out the screen grab of Texas Hold 'Em for iPod [iTunes link] that reader Michael sent us. Is that an iPod and iPod HiFi on the bookcase in the background? Why, yes it is. You can view a larger version of the screenshot after the jump. Now if you'll excuse me, I've got to finish my game of cards...and spend my winnings on an iPod HiFi.
Thanks, Michael!

I bought the Texas Hold'em game last night. It's a fun game, but I'm not particularly fond of the country music that plays in the background.
Fortunately, I found that if I started playing a song or playlist on the iPod, it would continue playing during the game instead of the normal background score. The sound effects (like card shuffling and chips moving) still played as well.
It seems this is a nice feature if it works in all the games. Play your music and your games at the same time. Wonderful forethought on the developer's part.

Bob - all the games are like that, thankfully.
There's a number of hidden character in Texas Hold 'Em, including a Chihuahua named BERTRAND. Gee, wonder what that's about...
Also, in Vortex, the first background has an arrow pointing out of the screen labeled as "Infinite Loop".

If you guys come back to the menu, does the game stops ? Can you put it un pause ?
The previous games couldn't so that was kind of bad when I wanted to come back in the menus to look for something for a minute and then come back to the game afterward.

In the two games I have, Zuma and Mini Golf, pressing menu brings up an in game menu that has an option to save and quit. Next time you open the game you'll be in the same place.

Is it limit Hold'em, or no-limit?
Also, there were two Apple products in the last episode of "House": an iPod shuffle and a Hi-Fi (without the speaker grill, so it looked cooler.

The fact that an ugly chick uses a Hi-Fi doesn't make me want to buy one. Now if a hot chick used one...

You can turn off the annoying first-person view. It plays much better that way.

M-A, I can only speak for the Pacman game, but it does let you pause gameplay by pressing Menu. You can even 'Save and Exit' the game, too, so you can go back and play it later.

I just watched the latest episode of House (S03.E02) and it also features the iPod Hi-Fi in House's office while they are trying to work out what the hell is wrong with this week's freak. Product placement galore!

Wow, I'm surprised at how many people comment on the girl pictured here rather than the topic of product placement. Nice comments by the way, "fugly", cause I'm sure all of you are Brad Pitt look alikes! NOT!!! Sounds like grade school all over again. With the exception that you are all now middle aged, losing your hair, can't get a date if your life depended on it. But at least one thing hasn't changed, you are probably still living with your parents! I at least appreciate the fact that you can spare time away from your jacking off to comment on the looks of a character in a freaking video game. Let's see your pictures so we can comment on you. And downloading celebrity pics from the Internet doesn't count...

This girl is HOT. I don't know what you guys have waiting at home, but I HIGHLY doubt it's better than her. I know my virtual-wife doesn't hold a candle.
IT'S A VIDEO GAME CHARACTER PEOPLE. GROW A SAC.
