Solution for broken car interfaces with new iPod software

We don't know how wide-spread this problem is, but I figured if this frustrating complicatioin happened to one user, he probably isn't the only one: SecurityMonkey at the ITtoolbox Blogs posted a tragic story with a happy ending involving Apple's latest iPod software update and factory car interfaces. This dramatic tale of heart-wrenching loss and emotional reuniting with his iPod + car integration kit begins with the software update for is 5G iPod that iTunes 7 requires. Upon connecting his recently updated iPod to the factory Nissan adapter in his car, the display presented the 'No iPod' error message pictured above.

Ultimately, SecurityMonkey was able to recover his factory iPod connectivity with the daring attempt of using the Restore function now built into iTunes 7. Granted it's a time-consuming process since it requires re-syncing all the music back onto an iPod (it also erases any data/files on the iPod, so back those up), but upon reuniting his refreshed iPod with his Nissan - their techno-sexy love was once again in full bloom.

Again, this is the first report we've seen of issues like this, so we have no idea which iPod models this affects, or which decks and interfaces are experiencing these quirks. If any of y'all run into similar problems, give us the details in this post's comments, or submit a tip via our tips form.

Have the same problem. However, the restore doesn't work. After restore (very time consuming), I plug my Nano into my Factory iPod/BMW integration and it works for about a half hour, but if I change tracks a few times, the whole thing gets hung up, the Nano locks up onto the BMW "Ok to disconnect" screen and plugging/unplugging does nothing. I have to plug it into a computer to get control of the iPod back and I have to do the "restore" trick to get the nano to be recognized by the car again (Until then, I just get "No Magazine"). Very frustrating. Any suggestions?

I also have a problem with the new update.
Blaupunkt radio with blaupunkt iPod cable.

My G5 ipod crashed if it's still connected when I turn of the radio. Only a reset will bring it back to life.

Hey guys, Safari crashed today. I assume that this has happened to others. It must have a bug that makes it crash on Sept 15th. Apple really needs to work on it's quality control.

#3 - Same issue on the MINI (BMW) - it skips like a fiend for 15 seconds, sometimes more. And this is new since the update.

I can't even get the radio working in my FIAT van, so I've not a lot of sympathy for someone whose iPod won't work in their car...

It seems that Apple needed to work on testing iTunes 7 a bit more before releasing it. I hope an update comes soon.

Mine works, but the sound stutters for about 15 seconds when I start my car. This did not happen until I got iTunes 7. It really pisses me off. (BMW+iPod)

My Kenwood KCA-IP500 did the same thing. Plugged it in and got nothing. Restored it and all was well.
