Macworld UK compiles iTunes 7 support docs

There have been a number of reports that people are having all kinds of issues with iTunes 7 (funny how this happens every time Apple updates iTunes. I would wager that iTunes is Apple's most used app, and I'm including OS X). Macworld UK has gathered up a number of links to Apple Knowledge base articles that lists bugs, and offer solutions.

If you're experiencing any trouble with iTunes 7 you should check this out.

I have updated iTunes on several Macs and have run into no problems, but your mileage may vary.

I just installed itunes 7 on my windows xp pro machine.
Every time it started, it would scan my computer library for 'gapless playback', and then on one mp3 - which was a recorded teleseminar of about 90 minutes duration, it froze. My whole PC froze - it wasn't just impatience.
If I quickly cancelled the cataloging of the 'gapless playback', then I could use the program fine.
Until it told me to update the software to my ipod (for compatibility). Tried that twice, and my whole computer froze twice.
I have uninstalled it, and will reinstall itunes 6. Then I'll wait a while, until the bugs are fixed.

I've had a few problems as well (on a PC). I have an enormous library of music and every time I open iTunes it shuffles through about two thousand tracks to check for gapless playback. It doesn't take long, but it does it every single time.

Also, we watch the daily show here at work most afternoons and since the upgrade I can no longer expand the window to watch them in a larger format without the video skipping around. Although I'm pretty sure that is a result of the Daily Show files being twice as large as they were before this upgrade.

And while it's pretty cool, I've found the album art viewer to be cumbersome when browsing my library so I prefer not to even use that new feature. It's much quicker moving around without it.

Ah well, still better than the next option.

I used to save some podcasts by re-coverting them to MP3, so they would then show up in the "Library". With iTunes 7 the "Library" does not exist. The newly created MP3 does not show up in the "Music folder" nor any other place. If I search in the "Recently Added" smart folder, the MP3 is there. But how to find it otherwise, it does not come up in a search!

Quote "It makes all albums by Various Artists get chopped up by artist into a million different album pictures when you group the music with artwork."

yep VERY annoing, but maybe there's a solution out there? Anyone?

My biggest problem isn't a bug but an issue with the design of the app itself. Not being able to control the secondary sort criterion is VERY annoying. It makes all albums by Various Artists get chopped up by artist into a million different album pictures when you group the music with artwork. Thoughts?

Only one problem for me. It is now reluctant to delete listened-to podcasts. I'm constantly selecting and reselecting "Allow Auto Delete."

I can tell you the gapless playback problem has nothing to do with impatience. My ~8GB library cruises right through the setting up gapless playback stuff until a certain point when poof... unexpected quit... every time. Usually I can stop it (hit the small X) before it dies, but ventually it started quiting before I can get to it. Apple really needs to address this. I hate having a buggy iTunes on my brand new iMac!

I had problem with iTunes 7 on Win XP, moving the curser and using the drop down menus caused interference noise, crackling, popping, skipping, freezing - it was REALLY BAD! I deinstalled iTunes 7 and downloaded it again yesterday and this time it seems to work okay, although my confidence in iTunes is somewhat dented. I'm not sure if it now works because I completely deinstalled and reinstalled it or because the latest download has been covertly patched, or because it clashes with one of the pc games I was playing?

My hunch is that it's probably the gapless playback ... which BTW is an absolutely feature. Now i can listen to Philip Glass 'Dancepieces' without the end of the songs suddenly being 'chopped off'. well done apple, but please don't give up beta software!

On a side note - ipods and itunes run using windows as well so shouldn't we windows users be able to read and enjoy this blog without feeling like second grade citizens?

after all this is the TUAW, not the UOSXW, or the UMacW. Just a thought.

No problems on my MacBook Pro or iMac at all, but a couple of Windows-using friends have reported sound degradation after about half-an-hour and problems with adding files to the library.

Coune me as one as a 7 users that has ZERO problems - man, that coverflow is cool - now I have to go in and fill in my gaps. I had not bother with some artists ... the dude, you are so ugly, why would I want to add KB to my file to look at your ugly mug but now ... that you can flip through it ...

BTW, there is a cool hidden feature - now if the artwork is not quite the square size or not quite the right pixel count, itunes will adjust to fill in the CD art space so no more artwork with a white border - nice touch!

I also like the fact I can turn or off EVERY option.

Thanks Apple!
