Macworld on what you need to know about iTV
We may not know when Apple will be shipping the iTV, or what it will be called, or what all it can do, but that won't stop us from talking about it. I mean, we know even less about the iPhone and lots of Mac websites parrot on about that ad nauseum (TUAW being no exception).Jason Snell and Dan Frakes, of Macworld, have written up a guide to thats the things that we know (and can infer) about the forthcoming iTV. Now, they say that the iTV doesn't seem to have a hard drive but a certain Disney employee disagrees. I suppose we'll know as soon as Apple posts some more info about this puppy.
The only thing I want to know is: when can I order one?

Jim: You're not the products primary target audience (You already have a set-top box for time-delayed and/or streamed video)
Stone Hardman: That would increase the cost by at least $40 (DVD drive - ROM, R/W - and IDE ATAPI interface)
Duh: That USB port might not have USB MASS Storage (or other drivers) My best guess is that rev 1 of this device will only use the USB port to play iPod (Shuffle, Nano and Video) music, images, and videos.
BTW Yes I do want one although I am a bit dissapointed that the device doesn't have RCA or S-Video connectors. That's a lot of people with older (CRT not LCD/Plasma/DLP) TVs/projectors that are being left out. The reason for that is simple: RCA and S-Video doesn't have adequate resolution and proper pixels.
I doubt that I'll buy one anytime soon (only have a 32" CRT TV) especially since I'm going to be getting a 17" 2.0GHz iMac C2D and I view most of my media on my computer not my TV. When I do get a hi-def LCD TV, I'll get this device soon after.
does it have a disk? -- moot
since it DOES have a USB port
What I want to know is why it doesn't have an iPod dock? Doesn't that seem like a no-brainer?

September 20 2006 at 3:23 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyIf it doesn't have DVR functionality, then it just duplicates what my Tivo is already capable of doing. Why would I buy hardware that duplicates Tivo without adding anything but FrontRow-like interface? Alternatively, why would I buy iTV instead of Tivo?

September 20 2006 at 3:07 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyDoes anyone know if the iTV has the same dimensions as the Mac mini? If so wouldn't the iTV sit nicely underneith or on top of the Mac mini thus acting as a DVR?
