AguaT brings the Aqua back to iTunes 7

If you aren't hip on the un-Aquaness of the new iTunes 7, AquaT might just be the remedy for adding some of Apple's more standard UI elements back into their straying media software. As you can see, it brings the candy-blue scrollbars, light blue sidebar background and other various UI elements back in line with the rest of Mac OS X. It even goes so far as to make tweaks to some of the file type column names, like slimming down 'MPEG Audio File' to 'MP3' - great for those to whom screen space is a premium.

Now AguaT is free, and it works by replacing a few files inside of iTunes itself, so if you're at all worried about fubaring iTunes, or if you want to revert back to the regular iTunes 7, the author recommends (and I echo) backing up iTunes.app before applying this hack (clicking on iTunes and pressing cmd-d to duplicate it should suffice).

This looks like a well-done hack, but I agree with Dan: even though iTunes 7 is laughing at Apple's HIG docs, I'm diggin' it. Still, in the interest of 'to each their own,' I though I'd bring this to the table for y'all Mac OS X users keepin' it old school out there. Peace.

I just upgraded to Mac OS 10.4.8 and found that Aqua for iTunes no longer functioned. But Aqua4iTunes works beautifully and also offers superior choices of looks (skins?).

Many, many thanks!

Aqua4iTunes is great, installed that and then cam across SmoothStripes which has taken away the brushed metal from everthing except DVD Player and replaced with the smooth plastic look, plus has smoothed out/removed stripes and banding from scroll bars etc - very nice! (Also tried Iridium but found the white look a bit bland and the unified title bars look out of place/odd in some circumstances). Aqua4iTunes + SmoothStripes = OSX GUI perfection!

UNO (http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/27932) makes iTunes look better. Aqua is old, unified is the shit! :)

Aqua4iTunes is great, but only does blue aqua. Does anyone know of a graphite variant?

Hi all, when the new iTunes 7 came along I didn't like the look (and still don't) but coverflow and gapless playback are great. I switched my preferences from blue to graphite to gowith the iTunes look, and got a nice ocean wallpaper. it's a nice change from the default aqua look I had before (first time in 18 months of owning the mac that I botherd changing the wallpaper!). Following advice given here I Installed Iridium to remove the rest of the brushed metal from OS X and like the results. I then installed Aqua4iTunes and got back the old aqua blue look in iTunes. Question: Is there a tool out there to iTunes 7 an Aqua graphite look rather than blue?

For some reason, I haven't been able to get iTunes 7 to install properly. I'm still using 6.0.4.2, with no regrets about not being able to buy videos at the iTunes Store.

iTunes 7's look is nice. But, it really has more features than 6 that really complicates the interface.

Jim- My tongue is definately not in cheek. I dislike Aqua. Stripes? Bubbles? Please. I love OS X, but like I said, Iridium is a must. The iTunes 7 look is cleaner: no glassy scroll bars, no shiny buttons.

How can you convince the man who decides what computer your company uses to chose the one that looks like candy versus the staid Windows that they are used to? Apple has been slowly toning down the Aqua-ness of OS X, and I, for one, am quite happy.
